Inland filament manufacturer change

I was reading a post that Inland filament was rebranded eSun (good budget filament), but now it is being made by a different manufacturer, and is of lesser quality. Has anyone experienced this? It’s time for me to by a few colors…

I was talking to Samantha who is in charge of microcenter purchasing for filament and she said there was a manufacturing change. The print temps will be different than the esun filament. I’m slowly getting away from Inland for better PLA and PETG from Atomic filament and Proto-pasta.

That’s unfortunate…

So, I’m ordering spare parts from Prusa. I can throw in one spool of filament before my overseas shipping cost doubles…any thoughts on a spool I should get from them that may be special and hard to find in the US?

Filamentum or prusa repunsel silver I’d buy a roll off you.

With, or without my roll of filament the shipping is $19.00. When I add the 2nd roll, the shipping increases to $52.00…

The Repusel silver is out of stock… :frowning:

I haven’t had much luck with inland filament to begin with. I’d recommend Hatchbox, not much more expensive and generally available on Amazon Prime.

Hatchbox is changing manufacturer as well.

Inland is Microcentet’s brand.

I stopped getting Inland after I had one destroy my printer; there was a cross weave on the spool (something that should never happen). Basically, when it hit that part of the spool it tried to feed from under a wrap, which can’t happen. It’s tensile strength prevented it from snapping before the printer managed to lift itself up to the station spool holder. when it did so, it finally snapped under tension and the printer bounced to the concrete on the ground after crashing back to the table.

Lessons learned: Inland has some pretty poor QA; printer feed mechanisms can have a surprising amount of torque; and even if you like ease of management, feeding, and spool changing just stick with the on board filament holders. That was you only destroy part of the printer when something like this happens.

I’m currently a big fan of Proto pasta anyway, especially that aromatic coffee.

Yup, I was just adding that Hatchbox along with several other brands are changing manufacturers as Hatchbox was mentioned as a reliable filament. Many people are starting to even go away from it now. Also, because of the change, what they do have will be harder to get for a short while.

If moisture is an issue for my unused filament, is it an issue for my finished products?

I have never had a tangle issue with inland, most tangles are from user error.

If you are planning to heat your finished product up to the plastic point again, the embedded moisture can bubble out pushing the plastic all around. It probably isn’t the only issue with wet filament, but one of the most noticible is the fillamant bubbling as it leaves the extruder due to pockets of steam forming. Needless to say, it plays havoc with print quality.

This was a fresh spool, and it didn’t happen until several hours into the
print. That’s not a user error, it’s too far down the spool.
It’s a sign of a serious lapse in QA. Will most filament have this issue?
Probably not. But it’s not possible from a spool bring wound unless someone
on the factory somehow restarts the process. Not having it checked before
it’s put back on the line is insane.

Not unless you plan to melt it and reform it into something else.
