Ideas for what vcc means

Vcc

An electronics designation that refers to voltage from a power supply connected to the “collector” terminal of a bipolar transistor. In an NPN bipolar (BJT) transistor, it would be +Vcc, while in a PNP transistor, it would be -Vcc.

Double letters (cc) refer to power supply voltages

Single letters refer to the voltage relative to ground; for example, Vc is the “collector” voltage relative to ground. Two different letters indicate the voltage between two terminals; for example: Vbe is the “base” to “emitter” voltage drop, while Vce is the “collector” to “emitter” voltage.

So then VCC is a recursive circuit of voltage collector to collector.

I’ve always thought of it as the Vintage Computer Corner, or the Vintage Computer Cabinet, or even the Vintage Computer Club.

Why use the word vintage if the purpose of the committee as stated in the wiki is:

The Computer Committee strives to provide a STEM pilot program for learning hands on about the whole computer from hardware to software and networking. Computing is more than a career or science; its a way of life. For that VCC provides the tools, labs, and opportunities for makers to build amazing things with Blockchain, Data science, Docker, DevOps, AI, Programming, and general hacking topics from gaming, case modding, home labs, and information security.

Computer Committee Labs and Knowledge base articles can be found on talk and Hackaday. Orientation classes are held regularly twice a month with office hours every wednesday and committee meetings are held on third Wednesday of the month. The committee also holds regular CompTIA prep classes, Programming Classes, Hackathons, Start-Up Accelerator, Lan Parties, and Capture the Flag events all of which are posted to the Dallas Makerspace Calendar.

We’ll welcome any topic and subject, so if there’s a technology, programming, or infosec class or lecture one not already at the space the be sure to contact the committee and we’ll work with everyone to make sure its available.

If that’s the purpose, then it’s not specific to vintage computers.

No one is saying VCC is specific to vintage computers.

While yes historically from '17 to April '18 we did focus more on just vintage/retro computing while still had programming classes for modern stuff like python and javascript.

Since there was little to no interest for vintage other than a small handful of the retro computer guys around the space that barely met more than once a year. The committee discussed about changing the name and we went with a recursive anagram since we where already known as VCC by that time.

but if one wants some insight about VCC; lets just say if we where to go on tour the following conventions would be where one can find us:

  • Blockparty / PixelJam
  • Quakecon
  • HOPE 2020 (yes plans to get a booth are underway)
  • Dockercon
  • Open Infrastructure Summit
  • Linux conference
  • Anything involving IEEE, EFF, FSF, O’reilly or Freecodecamp

Also the kerfuffle here rally comes down to the same issues argued about Computer Science vs Software Development:

Basically the only difference is in focus. Computer Science is going to have a focus that gets one into NSA, Bell Labs, DOD, NASA, etc. While Software Development depending on language focus is going to get one into Google at best or at the norm any fortune 5000 pushing deadlines to write business intelligence logic (ie sql and .net/java) for an accounting or marketing team with managers that don’t fully grasp technology. At the bottom of that, unless that’s one’s focus, would be web app development with your customers as your boss.

Vague Computer Cognomen

noun, plural cog·no·mens, cog·nom·i·na [kog-nom-uh-nuh] .

a surname.

any name, especially a nickname.

the third and commonly the last name of a citizen of ancient Rome, indicating the person’s house or family, as “Caesar” in “Gaius Julius Caesar.”Compare

Since it’s not specific to vintage computers, it shouldn’t be called VCC. That leads to confusion.
