I wanted to report that I broke the M8 tap tonight. The hole was correctly sized, in fact it was slightly oversized, and I was using cutting oil, but I snapped it anyway.
My sincerest apologies,
Phil

That’s okay, it was metric.
Thanks for letting us know. Was it a tapered or bottom tap?
I actually laughed out loud when I read that. Kind of with a “Meh…” added into it.
Taps break. I typically buy three or four if I have many holes to drill. The broke: sorts a Meh. That it’s reported - great!
At least this one appears to have bypassed the odds. The more impossible removal will be, the higher the odds of breaking it.
Thank you for being honest! God bless you!
What are the most common metric tap sizes?
Need the numbering, @Chris_Wischkowsky I suggest buying several of each size, 2 or 3 tapered and one bottom tap for finishing the hole if needed.
Let me know (links preferred).
Thanks
6 x 1.00, 8 x 1.25, 10 x 1.25, 10 x 1.5, 12 x 1.25, 12 x 1.50, 14 x 1.25, 14 x 1.5, 18 x 1.5

Bowers tools does not carry individual taps
But if you wanted drills (and various other hand tools) made in the land of the Moon Walkers … he is local, sells them to us(committees only) at close to his cost and delivers to the Space.
@Chris_Wischkowsky How about this set of Taps and Dies. Wide range from small to 24mm in course and fine threads. We can then but the extra taps based on specific sizes. But gives complete set of sizes listed by Tim. Most common complaint is about the box not holding all pieces when opened.
Tap and Die Sizes:
Coarse threads: 6 x 1.0, 8 x 1.25, 10 x 1.5, 12 x 1.75, 14 x 2.0, 16 x 2.0, 18 x 2.5, 20 x 2.5, 22 x 2.5, 24 x 3.0
Fine threads: 6 x 0.75, 8 x 1.0, 10 x 1.25, 12 x 1.5, 14 x 1.5, 16 x 1.5, 18 x 1.5, 20 x 1.5, 22 x 1.5, 24 x 1.5

Note to @slinkygn This probably surprises you me recommending this, it is not an endorsement merely a sign tolerance that Machine Shop is a Big Tent and all are welcome to machine as they wish.
The hardware bins behind the HAAS are …not as neat and tidy as the rest of the machine shop. maybe something like this could be of use? (image #2 of the 4 is the better idea)

Everything including the inventory … nice but then we’d have even more stuff!
More stuff that becomes quickly randomize. Entropy is strong at the space.
