I am Draco.. no one calls me Mike

Hi everyone …

Yes my name is Mike Cole but I rarely if ever use that name.

Please call me Draco if you want my attention because Mike really isn’t the name I answer to. It always feels strange when someone uses that name in reference to me and it doesn’t alert me that you are talking to me.

I really should change it legally to Draco.

Good to know…

How did you get the nickname Draco?

And do you have enough signatures for the bylaws-on-the-ballot petition yet?

I got it like 20 years ago. It means Dragon and was an old Greek name.
Friends thought that fit me and started calling me that.

I think we do. I’m not certain how many we have as we have several people submitting and gathering them. It will be interesting to find out.

You’ve really commented frequently on Talk. Out of interest from your your post subject… Why do people call you like and why is that an issue for you?

And I can relate to the “nobody calls me___” sentiment. Legally (and in the official DMS paperwork) my name is Juliette. But very few call me that. And if I respond to someone who does, the response is probably an eyeroll. I am the fourth Juliette in line of Juliette’s, and when I was born, two of those Juliette’s were still alive - in the form of my mom and grandmother. My parents chose Judy as the nickname to differentiate me from the others.

And to add to the Mike topic:
Back in the 80’s, I dated a Mike who went by “Goose” because of his last name - Gosselin. Other than his immediate family, I was probably the only person who called him Mike. Just a personal choice thing on my part. But like you, the nickname had become part of his persona. I have another friend whose given name is Wilfred Michael Krenek. His family calls him Mike, but all of his friends from school and beyond call him Wilfred, because when he started school, he was too shy to speak up and say he went by Mike.

Because Draco is my name and I prefer it. I don’t get angry about it if people call me Mike but people aren’t likely to get my attention, that is all. I saw recently several people started calling me Mike and that is the reason for this post.

Have you googled both the common and standard uses of the term by which you identify?

I searched a while back but not recently but I do get people saying to me “Malfoy” from Harry Potter or a Draco gun. This happened alot when the Harry Potter was popular and depending on who I am talking to.

Synonymous to a shorter assault weapon or a dictator type person from Grecian days. The Hpotter crowd notwithstanding you might care to consider how that name coupled with an “outlaw” signature is received. I’d certainly ensure you weren’t in any position to cause me discomfort.

I don’t think many would accuse me of being Draconian … err… or maybe?
