Lots of closures and headaches this weekend. How happy I am to know that ten years from now when my son learns to drive this hell-hole we call every street in dfw will actually be only a few years behind.
I would argue that this is more like Hate Week than a singular incident. 35 always hates you and your means of mechanized transport; this is merely a peak rising from the otherwise steady plateau of hatred.
I read that the sun will burn out in a billion years. I guess they will finish I-35 in the dark.
I’m just happy they decided to do it on a weekend. That kind of work isn’t like laying bridge beams, they have to do this stuff during the day. At least they’ll have the towers done and everything ready to just string wires across during this window.
The pavement will still suck and the terrible 35/635 interchange will remain unchanged.
At least I am coming from Oak Cliff
I’m up in Highland Village and with the mess that is I35E you learn quickly all the alternative routes to take.
Josey, Macarthur, Denton Tap/Beltlinie, TX121, FM544, Hebron Parkway, etc…
I bet, With some thinking I can get there without using I 35, likely my route using the fancy bridge to get to Riverfront, up to Market Center and over to Harry Hines, to Forest to Josey to Valwood
You can take Harry Hines up to the NB access road for I35E if you want… but I wouldn’t. I’d stay away from I35E.
Take Josey to 635W to Luna to Valwood and turn left at the light to get to DMS. I bet all those roads around I35E will be a zoo during the maintenance times.
Me & 35 don’t get along well. I’m kinda mad that they are only giving us one more lane & 10 "new"miles of bi-directional two lane tolls. They should have widened another lane or two from that. It used to take me 2 min to get on 35, now I’m lucky if it’s 10. (I get on right north of the bridge) I’m surprised the pot holes haven’t swallowed cars yet.
By then self-driving cars will make all this meaningless.
Wait…
What?
Those still need roads?!?
Well. At least he won’t be learning to drive. It’s WAAY to complicated a task for sixteen-year-olds anyway. (Or most twenty-somethings, thirty-somethings, surely the pattern had now emerged…)
The problem with the alternate routes are that they all kind of suck. I spent a month averaging my alternative route options to get to work (the DMS area) and found the alternate routes on average took longer than sitting in traffic.
But, if the highway is particularly bad I could see at least a savings in sanity for the alternative route.
tollway to valley view luna works but you have to get to irving to use it.
You really need to run down that road on a motorcycle, to get the full suck of the roadway.
You need to be greatful for any maintenance that the gubmint gets around to.
While biking a few years back I ran across a bridge with three of the five support colums that looked like this. Reported it to the City Engineer and was told “We are aware, but the bridge is in better shape then many. We will repair it as soon as resources permit.” Eighteen months later it looked even worse…
Contemplate this pleasantry the next time you drive over one of our bridges
I contemplate that every time I sit on top of the Main St. bridge over I35E in Lewisville and feel it shaking up and down as cars and trucks go over it.
Also, about 6 months before the FM407 bridge over I35E was torn down a chunk of it fell off and there was a hole left in the east bound lane that went straight down to the ground below. Crazy. They just blocked that spot off until the bridge was taken down.
Yeah the 407 bridge was my way home forever. I knew that hole well. Weird.
