Aside from the obvious donations, food, etc. I’m making up backpacks for any kids that have shown up on our campus displaced. Immediate help is awesome and if it’s like the tornado there’s will be help needed after the fact too as folks assess the damages.

Dallas is hosting a lot of evacuees, I am wondering if there are things
we can make or collect for them, Maybe soft toys, wooden jigsaw puzzles ???

Many will have children, that only left with a few toys, and they may be here for awhile
They are opening the Dallas Convention center as a shelter soon

We were told amenities like diapers and female products are needed as many stores in the area are picked over and are not expecting to be restocked for a week or longer.

If you’re giving money check with your employer first to see if they offer matching funds. Many larger corporations do.

The Cajun Navy and Texas Search and Rescue are looking for moderators of the zello channels to help organize crews.

Also, We now have a website showing reported rescue needed.

If you have extra places to stay you can open it up to people in need.

I heard on KERA that tens of thousands of households have been displaced by the flooding.

The company I work for matches employee donations. If you don’t know if your company does it or not, ask! Even if you work for a small company, you never know what you get until you ask.

Many of the children that have been evacuated here will be going to school here for some tiem
They need school supplies, at least one school board member is collecting them

I will look for the conatact and post it if folks are interested

@Nick is already down there, you may shoot him some cash for supplies. I know they have been buying diapers and other big needs.

@AndrewLeCody is going down Saturday morning. The company he works for is tossing in $1k and he is taking additional $$ for their support PayPal.Me

Wesley and I came back late yesterday. We worked in the Katy, Cypress, Spring, and Woodlands areas. The support out there is amazing. There are people helping all over! We were mainly clearing out the rescue map by corroborating saves that hadn’t been reported.

The transition from here is going to be fixing lives in Houston. I pray it goes smoothly. I’d be up to help on a build crew over a weekend if anyone is coordinating one.

I found out yesterday that Discover card is matching dollar for dollar any money you donate to the Red Cross through their site.

I have been trying to figure out how to donate to the people who are now trying to rebuild flooded houses and who might not have flood insurance. Does anyone know of reputable charities who help rebuild in these cases?

I do not KNOW that this is the way to go, but Habitat for Humanity SEEMS like the right fit…

@Julie-Harris, Samaritan’s Purse is where I would push you. They are a group that go in after the storm to rebuild. I’m looking to tag along with one of their groups, if I can make it work.

Here is their Hurricane Harvey Page: where you can sign up to help or donate.

Here is a link directly to the donation section:

These guys are active and did a ton after the Tornado in garland. They are also pretty well known for efforts clearing houses after flooding.
