Human Hamster Wheel - Made at DMS, presented at HackDFW

Hey there everyone!

We (myself, Ximone, Matt, and Mandi) made this at the DMS in 11 hours between Saturday and Sunday. Depending on how you look at it, it’s a standing desk, human hamster wheel, and treadmill, rolled (HA, get it?) into one.

Here’s a video of John Carmack (founder of Oculus and billionaire) walking on it at HackDFW:

Shout out to Joey for help with assembly, metal-lathing spacers, and loading the 86 inch wheel into our truck, Chandra for assembly help, donuts, and emotional support. Another shout out to the DMS for being such a great place to work, and to the woodshop committee. Once I’m out of the throes of college finals, I’ll be spending some time in the woodshop cleaning for sure

Nice job!
What is the estimated cost in materials?

We used 4 4x8 sheets of 23/32" pine plywood ($30 each), 4 skateboard wheels off a $30 skateboard, and a few 2x4s. Estimated cost is $150-200.
