How to access door without fob

How do I access the front door without my fob? I lost my fob after the key ring broke and i need a replacement.

Ring the doorbell and hope someone lets you in.

Hey Jeff,

as has been noted hope someone lets you in. We don’t currently have a way to allow members to open the doors without their fobs. Usually someone going in one of the doors or hears the bell is willing to get you to the common area, where we have a box of fobs on the table that you can use to replace the one on your account.

You may try emailing the new [email protected] to see if they can find a volunteer to help if you have trouble.

Of note, however you get in, just grab a new fob in the common room and activate it via Maker Manager. Other than the chicken/egg problem of getting into the space, the process is self service. So you’ll be up and running again in no time.

My name and telephone number is posted on each door, but that is reserved for Contractor Access only as it pertains to our Expansion effort.

Please do not call me.

I am usually at DMS on Monday thru Friday during the daytime. If I am expecting any Contractors then I will always be there, hit and miss outherwise. I am a volunteer like everone esle. I already get too many phone calls to let people in as it is. Some folks on the phone get pissed because I live 25+ miles away and can’t be there to open the door for them. Sorry, I cannot help you.

‘Maker Manager’ is located where?

with the space closing for covid-19, you may not be able to grab one for a week or two if you don’t tomorrow. I may grab some spares tomorrow and be able to get people setup outside of the space, so that once things reopen then can smoothly go in.

TY. I’ve got mine (fob) but was (phobic) (terrified) curious about the process of getting a new one and how to activate it. Never heard of ‘Maker Manager’ :))

The orig poster prob has not gotten a new fob yet.

Great idea to get a few fobs before DMS closes Tues @ midnite in case a member needs one, or a new member needs one :))

Every new member should have recieved a copy of the “New Member 411” in the welcome e mall. It contains a TON of useful info, and should be kept close to a new member’s nightstand to be used as reference when these questions pop up. Included in this tome is the “badge activation procedure” (at the very bottom), which includes where to obtain a FOB and how to activate (or change) it using Maker Manager…
Fortunately, grabbing a new copy is as simple as going to any of our “typically used” web pages, and clicking the link to “New Member 411” which takes us to this wiki page: New Member 411 - Dallas Makerspace

Thank you for sharing this info.
I did receive the new member/welcome email, and this may not be very reassuring; I did read the new member forums, all about Discourse, the Wiki etc. I actually read all more than once because I find the whole concept of DMS, the online platform Discourse, Talk, etc fascinating.

Now ‘retaining the info’ that I read, lol, obviously is another thing. Or knowing/remembering where to go to find it again. There is only so much that DMS can do to save the world :)))

** I am still adjusting to the highly ‘tech’ structure of DMS. And yes, if cooler brains had prevailed, it should have been obvious that info on fobs, their use, where to find, how to activate would be detailed in the new member info, and in other online info as well.

It’s all good. I respond to you, but really is more for the next dozen people having the same struggle. :+1:

look for the fake rock

Are previously working key fobs good to go for members that have reactivated their memberships?

You have to login to Log In | Maker Manager 3

And re-add the fob

https://accounts.dallasmakerspace.org/makermanager/users/login

We should put a little key lockbox outside with a handful of unactivated fobs in it. I’ve wished for that more than once after arriving late or very early and realizing I brought the wrong keyring.
