Should I order more? I didn’t take a peek in the cabinet last night. Anyone mind going in and taking a look? We have a tub of black and a tub of regular veg tan. I know we have one hide reserved for SIG projects.
@bitta @Webdevel
I’ll be by this evening and let you know. I’m not sure about @bitta but I haven’t used but a couple of pieces out of the scrap bin. I don’t believe you’ll need to purchase more. I have plenty of scrap I can replenish it with if need be at no cost. Save that money for new hides!
We just want to have offerings for people to use at no cost to try different tools and do experiments. But I do get your point. It’s very hard to supply consumables for a place like this - because the donations never equal the cost. Scrap has worked well for us.
The scrap bucket is “full”. There is plenty in the big bucket, and in the smaller bucket as well.
@bitta I taped up the new equipment and added it to the cabinet. I slightly rearranged a few items so we could use the new blocks Jeff made. It could be better, but it’s a start I think.
Also, I was speaking to someone who was asking about leathercraft and I could not find the Hand Rivet Setter anywhere. I even checked the teacher cabinet. I think I have a spare I can leave, but that’s definitely a required tool for anyone using rivets.
Didn’t we by a press for the rivets?
Did we ever have a hand rivet setter?
The only Die I saw for the hand press was for Line 20 Snaps. Those are the big snaps. Maybe I missed the setter if it’s supposed to be in that container. I’ll check again.
We had a couple of hand rivet setters in the hardware bin…never had a press for it.
Bitta I’ll get with you and see if the sets can be turned on the lathe to fit into that ared arbor press. If we can do that then setting rivets will be easier and set much nicer than with mallet. Can also do rivets.
Will also turn bar for all the stamps so they can be done on the arbor press also, if wanted.
FYI there are three “standard” sizes of rivets. The die sets for that hand press from Tandy includes all three. If you are able to make some on the lathe, then a set for each size would be ideal.
We need to get together. Figure out what needed then go make. I personally like riveting with an arbor/rivet squeeze. Cleaner consistent results. Haven’t done many on leather but countless on aircraft assembly.
I think I might be at DMS tomorrow from 1-230ish.
I own the Tandy Die sets for the rivets that go with that hand press. I’ll bring them, and if you happen to be there and we connect maybe take measurements? I can’t leave them with you since I need them though.
