Honorarium update please

@Team_Education and @Team_Calendar can we get an update on how the honorarium now work please. A summery of the current state would be appreciated. Is there a Team Honorarium that qualifies the class? I could not locate their @.

Are we at 3 or 4 class that a teacher can teach and get honorarium? Or has this number changed?

Classes that are NOT required training, the Participants don’t each have a take away project. Do they qualify for honorarium?

If a class is approve but does not qualify for honorarium will the teacher be notified or just not get a check?

Thank you for youR time,

All classes submitted for honorarium are reviewed by auditors to determine if they qualify for honorarium.
Since the change, I am unsure if a new education coordinator has been picked or if the board has decided on changes @brsims

@Bill is it 3 classes or 4 for honorarium?

With covid restraints are finish projects required? Or can the be just educational demos!

4 classes are currently authorized per month. While finished products are not required, it depends of the type of demo that will be paid. The auditors are in charge of which qualifies.

I realize that this is a bit of a hijack, but have we considered letting instructors stack up students in multiple same-class classes to hit 3 students? I realize that’s a big thought, and might require a board agenda item.

My example is my current welding class. It’s my plan to teach at least 2 back-to-back, 3 students per. 3 students means honorarium fails if 1 student no-shows. I could potential teach 4 students, but not hit honorarium on either of 2 classes.

Honestly, I do not know. I have been out of the loop for a very long time (mid November.)

Also, I was just thinking, I wonder when the honorarium team is approving classes are they looking at them to make sure they meet the CDC recommendation? Or just approving them bast on honorarium standards? Who is looking out for member safety?

Not sure if I am nitpicking, but honorarium classes are not approved, only declined (i.e. the “running the gauntlet” approach).

But to answer your Q, as an HA, pretty much no significant consideration is given re: CDC recommendations. Classes have been very scarce of late, but I imagine if a class allowing a large number of students in a small room came up, I’d probably send out a ping about it. But other than that it is not reasonable to expect HAs to enforce good behavior on others.

The best approach has been discussed and alluded to on various other threads (like the canvas discussion): while there are some high-level DMS rules, and some committee specific rules, concerning Covid safety requirements and best practices, similar to driving on 635 at rush hour (or any other time for that matter), you can’t trust 100% of other hoo-mans 100% of the time so trust no one, always drive defensively, and after everything is said and done your safety is your responsibility.

I will say that the Makerspace model is “just watch out for yourself”. Don’t count on us being too much of a nanny state…

What about for online class like tinkercad, fusion Inkscape programming?

Depends on what’s being offered. We’re interested in trying some of online classes, but there’s no blanket approval. I’d suggest reaching out with an idea and an outline.

ok thanks.

I would also opine that this would be an excellent time for each committee to start shifting to calculating an actual budget (monthly? quarterly? annually?) that can reasonably forecast the day-to-day financial needs of a given committee, so we can erase the honorarium-linked aspect of committee monies and the much-misunderstood stipends.
