Anyone here ever built an experimental aircraft kit? Not talking drones, rather full scale. Been a dream of mine for a long time. I get the EAA magazine every month and it gives me the bug. Seems like somebody here must have some experience with them…
Helped build one. Bought plans for a BD-4 but lived overseas while working, building an airplane in an apartment is practical.
What type? Plastic or metal? Before deciding you may want to go to Oshkosh at the end of July.
I’m retired aerospace, built BIG planes. Same principles. Get with me if you see me, would love to talk about it - see someone live a dream I didn’t make.
I helped build an UltraLight about 20 years ago… it was basically a triangle kite with a lawnmower engine hung off the back of the pilot seat.
I helped build it, but I WATCHED it fly.
My dad is building his second RV-8. I did some work on both of them, as well as most of the panel in the first one.
There are lots of EAA chapters in the area – some of them are pretty active clubs.
Jray,
If you send me your contact info i.e. phone number, I’ll have a guy contact you - I am framing the nose art that he has on his RV-8. Nice guy, beautiful plane. Local too. In his “real job” he is a triple 7 instructor pilot…(not the same guy as the one that owns the hangar shown above)
P.S. see that concrete floor? you can see the reflection in pretty good detail in that polish! Not epoxy, just polished and clear coated.
@DanielHooper where is your dad located? Would love to see / help on that RV.
@TLAR does that hangar have an apartment, RV, bird dog, bonanza, and a super cub? I think I spy’d with my little eye… Does your customer have a single daughter? That’s a gorgeous hangar.
He doesn’t live in Texas, sorry.
