Holiday giftmaking

It’s crossed my mind that the season is coming. Is anyone else thinking about projects they’d like to accomplish for gift giving? Perhaps a discussion or two will help to create a workshop or class idea.

One of the things I mentioned to @talkers the other day was a photo album with thin plywood for the cover, a photo transferred to that using a laser copy and gel medium, and then a title lasered over it.

This is something of an example found online:

Another idea that would combine disciplines is felted soap. Science is making soap and the fiber group knows how to felt… I think a box of felted soaps would be a great gift.

Finally, I would still like to explore an idea of printing a color photo to canvas and doing a bit of a paint-by-numbers painting over it. (I spent a few minutes looking for an example, but had no luck. If I find one I’ll come back and add it here.)

That’s three. What are you starting to think about?

Great topic, thanks. And quite timely since I found this link.
Well this is only related - but custom gift boxes. Fusion 360 recently added sheet metal to their lineup. I personally don’t sheet metal but the tool is excellent for creating a box which can then be laser cut out of cardboard or poster board. Here is a link to the tutorial: Box Tutorial
Now the best thing about this is the box design is fully parametric so you only have to design it one time. After that you just change the height/width values to create a box to fit your gift. It would be a great way to custom design some boxes for those bars of soap.
Cheers!

I really like the idea of projects that move across disciplines. I think it gives makers a chance to play in new areas.

PS - (edit) - This is more my speed of box making.

Yes I have started thinking about it too. It would be awesome if we could help each other out with areas the others are not good in

+1 on this! I am starting my holiday maker planning.

I don’t have time to mess with setting up a class but I’d be happy to meet up with anyone who wants to make ceramic necklaces, or feel free to ask if you see me making pendants at DMS. They make great stocking stuffers and teachers gifts because it’s possible to make a lot of them very quickly. I have a huge collection of cutters to play with.

ETA that I also have plenty of ornament cutters so I can help with both Christmas ornaments and pendants.

I would like to see the coin ring class offered again by jewelry. Would make a great gift. Was taught by Brad Blocker, for whom I don’t see a Talk username.

I would also love another coin ring class.
