Historical workbench question

Excellent point. I have plans to make a shave horse and a carver’s workbench, but in the meantime I made the “bowl vise”. It probably has a real name, but I don’t know it, so I made up a name.

I need to grunge up the mallet, but it’s very hard wood and I’m not having any success making it look more “experienced”.

I can bring in my ball mill with steel rod. A few minutes of that should do the job.

Uh - sorry. Since I know absolutely nothing about ball mills I wondered if it would reduce my mallet to dust within a few minutes …

Could you use a fine small jewelry file to distress that mallet? You’d have decent control if it gives the look you want, or at least it’d break the surface enough to proceed with something else? Test-drive in sacrificial something or other?

I don, think it would do more then add dings, but if you have something to test first that would be best
