Help with engine work

Hey guys,

I’m needing some help to replace my radiator and grille cover on my 03 PT Cruiser along with light reshaping a custom “fender”.

Would anyone be available to assist doing a weekend?

Maybe off topic, but since this is under job listing, please keep auto rules in mind

While working with and helping others is encouraged, we do not allow members to work on vehicles [at DMS] in exchange for money or other services.

Thanks for keeping things on the up and up.

Honestly I just need help with the metal work on the bumper while I do the replacement on the radiator and it would be nice if I could get a pair of second eyes to help look over the rest of the car to ensure there isn’t any other work that I would have to do.

My automotive skills are a little above general maintenance (ie can swap out a motor or do basic performance tuning) but I’m just not confident enough with this car to say if there’s isn’t any other work needed or not. That’s one of the other reasons I’m post it here, after all I’m not above helping in kind, buying a beer/coffee/pizza/insert favorite thing here, or just giving a few bucks for some’s time and skill.

But if this thread is better posted else where then lets move it there, please.

Thanks.

It’s a liability issue. If someone accepts anything for helping you out with your car, they’re liable for the work done.

Most people are pretty helpful if you bring your stuff in, ask, and actually listen to what they have to say.

I’ve never had an issue with someone refusing to help me willfully, but people are honest about it when they know it’s beyond their skill level (like the high pressure power steering hose on my car was hard for a professional mechanic to fix, much less our hobbyists).

No worries, I completely understand about the liability thing.

There is a pretty comprehensive set of auto tools that developed in the wake of the mazda fiasco, and these tools developed in a carport that I have access to. So if you have a project that may be skirting the edge of what DMS rules will allow, and you are so brazen as to associate with the lowlife automotive committee involuntary scofflaw, there may be a place where cars can be taken apart, sleep can occur, and work can resume subsequent a night of rest… let me know if this helps…

Helps a bit, but for the record, I don’t expect the whole weekend here more like the afternoon.

In the meantime I’ll start ordering parts that I do know I need and I’ll put up on the calendar when I’ll bring it in so I’m using time needed in the garage.

Doubtful, at best.

The real reason this is done is to prevent someone from opening up “'s Auto Shop”, using DMS resources as if they owned an business.

That’s interesting. Someone told me that was the reason they couldn’t accept payment. Good to know!

The reason you quoted was provided by the board and they cited our insurance provider.

I can find no such clause in our policy.

so sounds more like the usual rhetoric of ensuring people don’t “abuse the space for lulz and profits” kind of thing.

Honestly, not my goal. I just have some metal work and a few parts to replace. Parts replacement is way within my own skill set but bending a 15’ chrome steel bar a few degrees to realign is out of my skill set. Plus double checking there isn’t any issues with the car’s alignment or anything else is a concern for me. All I can tell is the radiator is just needing replacement.

The only reason why I originally posted this thread else where is I’m use to “buying the beer” when asking for help from friends and neighbors with things like this on my cars even though I was the one using the tools to learn.
