Can @Team_PR or someone put together a short 30 second video we can try to spread to ask for votes?

Great Idea to get a video! Perhaps @Team_Digital_Media has some resources to pull it off?

Launch it, indeed…

You can vote daily. We are late to the game as the voting started two months ago but there are two months left so share share share…

Note that I am not suggesting trying any shenanigans or submiting fake votes (which could get us disqualified and forfeit the min prize we have already won by being a finalist), was just interested in how the voting is working

The button just does an ajax call to to a php script, the modal that pops up and says you already voted for that day if you click twice is only based on client’s localStorage (key is in format ip@date@project like “10.84.184.5@12:02:2016@140”), how they actually count the votes is inside the server side logic and unknown as the server just replies with that key and not if it counted your vote, so it’s unclear if they will automatically dedupe based on external IP.

Which means that it’s possible that if lots of people vote from inside the DMS lan, even though it would appear locally like your vote counted, it could be only counting a single vote from that ip address per day

And will again tomorrow

So Brandon is saying vote from home or on your phone on LTE to be safe and make sure your vote counts

so is the contest based on Chicago politics where the motto has always been “Vote Early. And Vote Often”?

The contest/voting administrators stated, “All votes from the same IP will be logged… Only thing to note is that each vote will be counted as once per day per computer. But multiple people voting per IP address is not effected.”

Good point…would/do all the laptops and other devices that are connection to internet via DMS WiFi then present the same (external) IP to outside world?

Yes, but there are other indicators such as browser strings and user names that are passed up that can be used to identify duplicate votes.

Maybe the six (?) or more groups that have Dallas Makerspace-related facebook pages could also copy the summary and post the link? @uglyknees, what do you think? The CA Facebook page is one of the more active ones.

Do the contest admins use the other information you mentioned? Or just the one they explicitly called out: [quote=“nausser915, post:14, topic:14781”]
"All votes from the same IP will be logged…

You’ll have to ask them or the Great Carnac.
