Help design the new member "pop-quiz"

Continuing the discussion from MakerManager 2.0:

We need to design a series of questions for the pop-quiz that new members will take when receiving their RFID tag. Please help us come up with some questions to ask. The questions should be fairly simple, multiple choice style, testing the new member’s knowledge of the rules and our culture. The answers should be easy to find and the test will include some helpful links at the start, such as links to the rules, member 411 page, etc.

Please submit you suggested question with 4 possibles answers and indicating the correct answer.

While working with a tool, you accidentally break it. Should you:

  1. (Correct) Place a note on the tool indicating it is damaged. Go on the forums and notify the committee in charge of that tool, explain what happened.
  2. Throw the tool away.
  3. Place a note on the tool indicating it is damaged.
  4. Attempt a cosmetic repair so that the tool doesn’t look broken.

You have a project that is difficult or impractical to move, but should be complete in a few days. It’s too large to fit in a personal storage bin, but small enough to fit on a shelf/table. Should you:

  1. Find some empty space to put your project, put a note with your name and phone number on it.
  2. Hide it behind some shelves.
  3. (Correct) Place it on the project storage shelves and sign-in on the storage sheet.
  4. Place it on top of your personal storage bin.

  2. Anywhere there is empty space, put a note with your name and phone number on it
  3. Hidden above the drop ceiling.
  4. (Correct) Off-site. Storage is for active projects only.

Andrew,

It is almost eerie, but the first one is exactly the question I had in mind except I would add the answers:

  1. Put the tool away quietly and then walk away whistling leaving the rest of us to pay for your inconsideration because you were raised by yaks with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

  2. Be prepared to get caught on camera and used as a “test projectile” by the Trebuchet Fan Society

Once you have completed the required “New Member” training and paid your dues, how does the space “work”?

A)(correct) Your door card opens all doors to the space, where you are welcome 24-7 and may use all resources unless extra training is required (check web site/stop signs on the machine itself).
B) You will still need to sign the “Consent Form” each time you walk in the front door of the space, same as when you did your walk-through.
C) During your first 3 months as a “regular” (i.e. non-voting) Member, you must be escorted to your workspace by a “Full” Member.
D) Do what you like, when you like. Blind experimentation is the best way to learn your way around.

You find yourself having a conflict with another member. What do you do to resolve this?

  1. Punch him/her in the throat so (s)he can no longer speak.
  2. (Correct) Send an email to the Board of Directors listing the problem and suggested solution.
  3. End your membership at the Dallas Makerspace and never return, hoping that the other person will feel bad and post on craigslist’s Missed Connections to apologize.
  4. Contact the Trolling Committee to see how they can help.
