What would be the best way of going about getting the carbide scrapers by the lathes checked? Ive been using them over the past week or two and noticed i struggle significantly more with the roughing & parting tools each time I use them. I also know at least one of the parting tool tips is chipped.
Is this something where I can rotate the tips myself, ask here, or put up something in the issue section?
Please discuss this in person with a teacher or someone who is experienced. Most low experienced members can become confused as to when the inserts need to be rotated.
Also, it’s not a bad idea to just get your own cutters. They are effectively consumables, but luckily are: inexpensive; easily available (e.g. Amazon, Woodcraft, etc.); easy to port around; and that way you will always know you have what you need and that it is good condition and ready to use.
The EZ tools have carbide which can be rotated to a fresh edge. The tool to loosen the screw MAY be in the tool chest at the grinders. Carbide or traditional tools get dull. A dull tool is a dangerous tool. NEVER try to sharpen the carbide on the grinders/tool sharpeners we have.
