@teamhatchers are there all members interested in hatchers armory?
@Team_Hatchers will notify 6 people…
After 2 years of mostly inactivity, I’m ready to let it go. I’d like to be informed about the disposition of property which consists mostly of reloading equipment and would like the opportunity to bit on it if possible.
Well I’d like to think we could continue as a sig
Continuing as a SIG shouldn’t be a problem. Hatcher’s will just have to decide what the SIG is going to “do” and find a committee that is the closest match and approach them. E.g.
- If armor making, probably Metal Shop
- Weapons like knives, swords, maces, war hammers, halberds: Probably Blacksmithing - knife making SIG would support.
Doesn’t mean you can’t do things beyond that, but find something that aligns with your primary goal at DMS and you can do at the space.
I’m still interested in firearms and related topics but a previous board made it all but impossible to do anything meaningful at the space regarding firearms. I’d like to see that decision reviewed. Does it still make sense? Still the best path forward?
Make your case. What do you think is meaningful? What do you think the committee should do? Is there sufficient interest if the rules are changed? How should the rules be changed?
Is the lack of activity because of the rules, or, a lack of interest?
This has been hashed out a lot in other threads, most recently: https://talk.dallasmakerspace.org/t/20200806-bod-agenda-item-dissolve-computer-committee-and-hatchers-committee/73258/36
I think there is interest in firearms in general, perhaps not reloading. Even if it’s “common sense” for firearm enthusiasts having classes on what a gun is and isn’t would be beneficial with so much misinformation out there.
I was highly interested in a gun cleaning class.
It was the ruling that we couldn’t reload & were limited on firearms/firearm work that really started putting the nails in the coffin.
Luke does have a valid point.
Yes there are other things Hatchers could do but its not the main driving factor.
I taught someone how to build an AR-15 at the space years ago. I would happily do it again but it’s not permitted under the current rules.
Was asked on facebook to respond.
@procterc
The rules are not only Draconian in threats of punishment. They claim to follow law that is non-existent. As hashed out in the past, Hatcher’s got an official ruling from the ATF as to the matters we could do and the things we needed to stay away from. Then a past BOD had a secret and private meeting with another ATF agent in which they claimed our official ruling was null. But, there was no recording of the meeting. The ATF agent wouldn’t officially make any statement to over turn our ruling. No one from hatcher’s was able to be a part of the meeting or to submit any question to the agent after the meeting. Hatcher’s was run out by the rules and loss of any ability to have any meaningful input.
As they said in Hamilton, no one else was in the room where it happened.
Put forward a proposal to this board to revisit the matter, and postpone the dissolution of the committee until the rule issue has been resolved.
