Incase you guys didn’t see, HRO in Plano (across from frys) is now open.
This store is fairly close to my home, so I stopped by there this afternoon (they opened for the first time at 10 this morning) and had a look around. It’s a nice, little store, catering to ham radio, but not much else. They have basic ham radio gear: antennas, headsets, power supplies, a few educational books and videos.
Store hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 P.M.
Nice!!! Now I don’t have to go to California to walk in somewhere and buy something at a store where they will talk to you.
They are doing a soft opening right now. Their “Grand Opening” is suppose to be Feb 28th (when they will have awesome deals according to the sales guys inside). They dont even know what is going to be on sale yet.
Dropped in to check it out yesterday. Was greeted and told about how my husband could make a shopping list for me to buy for him at Christmas. NOT cool HRO, not cool.
After we got past that, they did have a nice selection of stuff but were clearly in the soft opening stage. One employee was a bit flummoxed at my questions.
Confirmed that their grand opening is Feb 28 and there will be specials, along with specific vendors coming in the following 3 weekends to do “trunk sales” of sorts with demos and more.
Tactical error number one on their part. But at least they talked to you. Instead of each other as LOUDLY AS POSSIBLE…
It was a bit chaotic when I visited. Three of the employees/managers were working on shelf inventory, while two employees worked the registers. I overheard one man mention that the price their register rung up for the item he was buying was about $30 less than was marked on the shelf. The store gave him the lower price, and the managers discussed how to handle this situation in the future.
Wow… a local ham store where they actually talk to you?
If their showing in the main store is anything like their act at hamcom, I suspect Main Trading Company has plenty of folks that will talk to you. Paris, TX is a bit of a drive, but they’re nice folks. Good prices too. Now the other “towering” paragon of ham radio here in DFW - not so much.
Looking forward to seeing how the local HRO compares.
Definitely not cool, but then don’t get me started on discrimination in Plano…
