I picked up another Gulfstream donation this morning., It is NOT as large as past donations and only includes veneer, a few Corian pieces and a 4x10 sheet of 1/2" MDF.
I have no room to store it and ideally DMS would find a use for it. In the past laser classes have used it and another person used some of it for a wainscoat project.
The larger veneer sheets are 4x8 sheets. I could not take photos of all of the sheets.
I would like to bring it to DMS this week if possible. I could use a hand unloading it, too.
Anyone interested? If not I’ll have to find another place to put it as my woodshelf it full.
What Wednesday are you available? I can pretty much make anytime. I have a meeting on Friday at 5PM though.
I appreciate the offer very much. The MDF is the heaviest part of the load. Where do you think we should put the veneer? The last time we just put it on the work tables and I don’t think everyone was happy about it.
At the risk of being unpopular. You need to clear that with the woodshop chair or a board member before bring it into the space. all donation have to be approved by a chair of an area or a the board member… @SWA@mrjimmy
One of the rules is no reclaimed lumber is allowed in the woodshop… all the veneer you brought in last time that was stacked on a table in the general work area, It was all reclaimed , because is was already attached to substrate.
Ok. First of all, I’ve been donating this stuff for many years now. I almost always put it on the freebie shelf.
Second, the substrate is two-ply veneer, and it has never been used so it is NOT reclaimed. The full sheets are what Gulfstream puts in their aircradt.
Third, these are samples mostly, and I’ve never made any other representation. I’ve provided samples of leather, Corian and other materials Gulfstream donates because they don’t want to put it into the landfill and they’ve been used to make various things at DMS.
Lastly, Bert was involved in the last donation. I know that putting them on the tables was a mistake and I regret it.
Admittedly, there is a lack of storage for the stuff. My intent is to put it up for general use, donation, and not necessarily for committee use. Unfortunately,
the freebie shelf doesn’t lend itself to the donation of large sheets of wood veneer or MDF.
The bottom line, I’ve had pushback in the past for various storage reasons, and that is why I posted this like a did. I wanted to offer it to wood shop first, because there was some discussion about teaching classes with it, but in reality I offer it to anyone at DMS. Should I just dispose of it and tell Gulfstream we no longer want their donations?
@ozindfw and I were hoping to unload these at 3PM on Wednesday. If we don’t have anywhere to put them, we’ll put what we can on the freebie shelf. I’ll either take the rest home or dispose of it.
@Team_Logistics is there anywhere we can put some free veneer materials?
Thanks for thinking of the members. Right now, I’m trying to coordinate to find space for the full sheets of veneer, since they’re bulky. I’ll get back to you when we have updates.
Hi Dan, just reached out to Max and you can store the veneer in vertical storage.
As we have member projects in there, please be sure to clearly label the donations to distinguish them. In the future, you can email us at [email protected] so we can coordinate future donations.
Thank you so much for your assistance. We’ll mark them as donations as requested when we place them in the upright storage. I’ll also let you know when any more material is donated. We can decide if we want to take it then and where we can put it.
For instance, in the past she’s offered carpet samples and other samples and I’ve told her we can’t use them.
Unless @Lizzy_Zinn wants to become a carpet bagger? But I don’t think we’d want to store them in CA for a potential class.
(Lizzy – no carpet samples are being offered at this time.)
I’ve been wanting to make cat shelves for my walls and I need to coat them in carpet. Would there be enough carpet to coat them in that cause I would be interested in that?
