Any one have experience with these?
Beyond replacing a few, not much. They are soft to press out and I used correctly sized bearing puller to push it out. Mine was in a marine environment so corrosion and electrolysis was a factor making it hard er than usual.
Did the graphite individual plugs stay in their place well or did they move inside their compressed holes?
Do you have access to any old used ones?
LOL! It’s been a while since I have had a boat.
Are they in say a pillow block that you can work on of whatever they on? If so you can turn a tool simply on the lathe.
- Get a piece of stock at least .250 in diameter
- On one end, call it the large end, turn a recess about .020" over the bearing diameter about 0.250"-0.375" deep. On the opposite end, turn down the diameter about .0.020" under size the bearing diameter the lenght of the bearing and say 0.250" longer.
- Use the hydraulic press to push it out and to install it. Or use clamps or brass hammer to drive the bearing with your custom tool.
OR
Find a socket the right size and use it. If can’t find one the right size, find one slightly larger and turn it down. If I recall I used a socket to get mine out. Have used sockets to push bushing out and to install.
