There seems to be an increased level of interest in Amateur Radio at DMS. The application to take an exam requires that you list your Social Security Number or FCC Registration Number (FRN). The best option to submit a request online for an FRN and use that on your application. It is free and, I think, issued immediately when you apply. Use the following link. It requires your SSN but you are working with an fcc.gov site. Getting an FCC Registration Number (FRN) in the Universal Licensing System (ULS) | Federal Communications Commission
Weather permitting, I will be set up out in the parking lot tailgate section on that Saturday selling a bunch of test equipment, odds and ends, and basically anything that helps me clear out my garage. I’ll start setting up at 6 AM. The early bird gets the worm.
I know this is a very old post but thanks! I just did this and got my FRN. I did some searching on the threads and it seems the topic has some interest but not too much movement recently. I’ll keep an eye out, maybe things will start up again.
Until then I am starting to investigate the HAM world and plan to attend my local club meeting up here in Carrollton on March 9th as a starting point.
If I weren’t out of town for a 4 day weekend, I might go to the Irving Hamfest in part for the top door prize drawing. I figure the way it always seems to work, anyone who already owns the same radio as the prize is twice as likely to win. And while my wife will be in town, I don’t think I can convince her that it would be something she would enjoy on her own. The skywarn class Saturday might have used up all my bonus points for a while to come already.
