Gauging interest in a class on making oak gall ornaments

Right what it says on the tin, I’m thinking of hosting a class on making ornaments from oak galls via paint, wire inlay, or liquid leaf. I’ve been wanting to make myself a set of gall ornaments and figured this would be a nice way to get others into it. I’m thinking some time in November, depending on when the galls start dropping.

Feel free to let me know if you’re up for it, ask questions, or show off some weird galls you’ve found!

If, like me, you had no idea what an “oak gall” is, you can check it out here: https://www.leaf.tv/articles/what-are-oak-galls-used-for/

Very interesting. I’ve never actually seen one and I’ve been around all kinds of Oaks. Maybe I just wasn’t looking.

Good luck with your class.

Thank you, I’ve added a few I’ve gathered in case anyone is unfamiliar.

That sounds fun!

If you find a good location for them or wind up with extra, I’d be interested. Very good for natural dyeing. Lots of tannin.

My little oak grows galls all.the.time. I’ll save em for you Jeannie.

I’d love to get in on some dyeing as well if you ever host a class on it. My grandparents raise cattle and I always think it’s a shame when we have to throw out a whole hide rather than process it.

You raise a good point, I think I’ll scout out a few spots to collect and list them in the info for the class.
