Galvanized metals

There’s a sign on the metal shop door about galvanized metals. Is this just prohibition for use with Hot Processes, or all use in the metal shop?

I need to cut (band saw or chop saw) and bend some 1 in conduit.

Just hot processes.

Yeah, cold working shouldn’t release any of the zinc in a vapor form, which is the reason for No Galvanized.

The big issue is making sure you don’t have any cutoffs left in the room and clean up; we don’t want anyone picking up a piece of metal, not knowing what it is, and using it for welding practice. Same with galv dust in areas that get hot.

In general, you can cut and bend it outside of the room too (just because we’re the metal shop doesn’t mean it has to happen in there… Just don’t do it in woodshop). There isn’t much reason to do it in the room itself if you don’t have to.
