Vacuum detector, obviously.
I have a vacuum detector on my freeze dryer. It goes to zero every time I let the vacuum out.
I’m suggesting a different kind of vacuum: the underlying structure of the universe.
In a similar vein one of my favorite novels - Eon by Greg Bear - has the main character exploring a, eh, spatial distortion. They ask an engineer to devise an instrument that will among other things calculate the local value of Pi to aid their exploration.
