A friend noticed a number of 4’x4’ sheets of quarter inch “plexiglass” near the dumpster of a DISD school and were told that DISD is removing the Covid protection panels in all schools. If this is of interest, you might check with the office or maintenance staff of schools in your area. I don’t have further details but if this would be useful, it would be worth a few phone calls.

And a quick note, if it’s polycarbonate remember that it can’t be cut with the laser cutters. Polycarbonate turns yellow and releases a lot of smoke and dust that causes the optics to get dirty very fast.
A quick way to (roughly) tell acrylic and polycarbonate apart is to bend a strip of it. Polycarbonate tends to bend before breaking whereas acrylic just snaps.

For a nondestructive test the edge on acrylic is usually blue tinted and lighter and the edges of polycarbonate is usually more greenish and darker.
