not to sound like a parent of a teenager but… what are your intentions with DMS? what are your plans to make it better? what do you see in the foreseeable future with it…and will you have them home by 10 pm (okay that last one was a joke)

its no surprise that you have been known to state your mind when it comes to things- how do you intend to make yourself more approachable as a BOD?

Happy to answer,

My intentions with DMS are simple, continue building, fostering and strengthening the foundation of the organization. With a strong foundation all other endavours that we may attempt have a much better chance of success.

For the foreseeable future, I suspect the majority of our efforts will be in recovery of lost ground. I see potential opportunties to grow and become more of a pillar in the community but solvency and stability in our organization will have to come first. Covid-19 puts us in a position that some choices will be made that require sacrifice in the short term.

My plans for DMS are closely aligned with my intentions.

Support common sense financial policies.
Create a budget and live by it. There will always be unforseen circumstances. Budget sets a bar on which to measure our wins and losses.

Encourage internal community growth via social gatherings that invite all to the table.

We have had great success in our potluck events. Attendees rave about the excellent time they had.
This leads to more attending in each event after.

Grow internal infrastructure to better support actual need.
This is simply about providing needed resources when it benefits the organization as a whole. This includes doing so in a manner that uses our limited resources in as efficient a manner as possible.

Encourage community growth through outreach opportunities in the community.
As a non-profit we have many opportunities to leverage our vast pool of volunteer knowledge and efforts into contributing to the community in a way that helps all. From schools to community centers we can help make a difference via learning opportunities and outreach programs.

Will I have the children home by 10?

I guess it would depend on the children

Hey Freddy, so within the past month or 2 you have been rude to members on talk. You have mentioned that you are planning to work on this. With such a small passage of time, how are we to believe this would be the case? What steps have you already taken to work on this? I’m just asking because several people have complained about this around me.

Thanks for the question, in all roles there are varying levels of acceptable communications styles. As the CTO who reported to the Board of Directors there was one level of acceptability, as a member another. As a board member it too is altogether different.

Per my SOI, I committed to raising the bar on how I communicated. As a Board member my role would be to listen to all comers and provide even and honest feedback. This means an adjustment of tone for the audience at hand.

As for what I’ve done, every day is a new day. Many strategies meet the end goal of communication improvement. I can only work to improve as I move forward, history is just that, history. As for steps, simple things like typing, reading, retyping etc. I’m extremely passionate about most things I’m involved in. I’m very honest as well. Only time will tell whether I am able to uphold this.
