Foundry Classes for 2016

I, too, am interested. Since you raised the issue, do we have the ability to 3D print in wax?

Thanks,
Chris

To my knowledge the 3d printers at DMS don’t print in wax. i.materialise prints in wax but it was not clear to me if they would send you the wax print alone or just use that as an intermediary for casting in metal.

I am planning to cast in aluminum at first and progress to bronze.
I want to learn how to do hollow castings.

The Midnight Printer Bot is able to print the Machine able wax I purchased. I had an issue with the bed being heated too much and the piece pealing off even with glue, but am working on correcting the issue. I hope to have a good test piece that I can cast this week and will post the results.

Was busier that I thought over the holiday and will post the class this week.

Will be first come first served due to the amount of interest.

Thanks,

Matt

Makerspace does not have the ability to print items in wax. That requires a specialized type of 3D printer. Invest-A-Cast in Carrollton can print your files in wax. Or you can do the old-fashioned way which is to create a rubber mold from the 3D printed part, shoot the mold in wax using a compressed wax pot/injector, and then cast in brass.

Makerspace actually does have the ability to print on machine able wax, using the printrbot next to the scanner.

I will be casting this and the other pla tests in the next few weeks.

Will let everyone know how it goes.

I need a hot wax injector.
Saw some plans to build one but got a little overwhelmed.

So cool!
I didn’t even know that was available.
