Form 2 is here!

The Form 2 arrived. I am setting it up and going to do a sample print. I’m registering the pro warranty and will schedule a training session. I’m going to schedule the first class in about 2 weeks. I have 5 resin tanks that will be sold for the class. I’m going to beta test the usage of this printer to adjust how we use it

Wow! True stereolithography. Kewl! I will be anxiously awaiting the class. (Now if I could just model something to “print” in it …)

Is this the one that will be able to print castable burn out resin

Yes. I gave @nausser915 the castable ring samples I got from Formlabs so we can try burning them out for casting.

  • Are the classes going to be “Members Only”?
  • Will the 3D Printing Class be a prerequisite? (If so, be sure to create a request in the #issues-requests category to have that option created… )
  • Will there be a small fee for the class to help cover consumables if the instructors print a sample during class - or will the cost of the sample pieces be absorbed by the honorarium? (I’m asking because the cost will presumably add up a lot quicker than printing the same size sample pieces on the PolyPrinters… Oooooh but the samples could be super small to emphasize the details possible!!)

1.) Yes. It’s an expensive tool and you will have to be a member and I will
have limited slots per class.
2.) Yes. I want people to be able to discern the difference between FDM and
SLA printing techniques before wasting expensive material.
3.) Haven’t decided but I’ll round up the cost of the resin tanks ($65) the
honorarium will help with the rest of the costs. There will be an overhead
margin on the cost per mL of resin used as well but it won’t be bad.

Exciting stuff! I’ve seen this all over Instagram and I think it’s going to really up the game.

I printed a Canon 5D camera (from Thingiverse), with repairs, in 1:12 scale on the Polyprinter. Even with the smallest/highest resolution printing it required meaningful clean-up. It’s about half the size of a penny with a lot of details. I’d love to see the comparison between the two methods. If you want the (repaired) g-code/stl, I can give it to you.

  1. New printer ~ freaking Awesome Dude!
  2. Wow ~ I want to use it now!
  3. … who am I kidding… I’m sure there are thousands of ways to get it back on track; but, my fingers are getting tired already.

The Form 2 seems to be begging for a time lapse camera…

And possibly one of these:

As my kids like to say, ooooOOOOOOoooooooo!

Suggestion if not brought up yet. This machine is wonderful, but the bed/tank are a good chunk of the cost. Perhaps the DMS having the clear resin in house, and if you wish to use something other than clear you should bring in your own tank/bed? Thoughts?

Why does a Cannon camera have a Nikon strap?

That’s the idea so far. You can print anything you want as long as it’s
clear!
