Mercedes had another gullwing car, the C111, which had the revolutionary 4 Bank Wankel mid-engine in it. That car was introduced in 1970. I saw only a few of these cars in person when I was stationed in Germany. Beautiful design for that time period. See Mercedes C111 Wiki.

I’ve only been in one of these, and it sure was fun, though limited. It was a former (Swiss, if I recall correctly) Army vehicle (chortle) and I only got to put about 1/2 a mile on it, but I’ve never wanted to go offroading more! The facility I worked at had an embankment in the back, about a 10 foot dropoff into the neighbor’s backyard…I was SOOO tempted to give that whirl. Wussed out. Still had fun!
