Looking forward to this class! - turns out to be quite timely.

By the way, is a nice old slow class 2 card fast enough?

Can we go all the way to 16 GB or 32 GB?

Thank you so much for joining the class! I generally use class 10 SD, but I am sure a class 2 will work fine! I just wanted you to have something to take home with you and your notes.

Just asking for a minimum 2 GB, 16 and 32 are fine, since we will use quick formatting on the Tascam.

Great questions!

Aaaaand…it shows as sold out. Boo.

@DerpVader - I will place you on the waiting list in case someone cannot make it! There will be more instructors and this course will be offered as a prerequisite, so it should be online regularly. Thank you!

Cool, thank you @Natasha_Cooks! I was hoping for that option but didn’t see it in the EB app or website.

Yep. For some reason, the Event hasn’t posted yet, and the class is only a week away. I will confirm with the attendees on Thursday, so you are first in line if anyone drops out. Thank you!

Hello Everyone! We are confirmed for tomorrow! I just got the Microphone gear in for the Tascam recorder. Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow afternoon!

Thanks @Natasha_Cooks for a great training. Your passion for this stuff shines through - and I appreciated hands on the equipment.

FWIW - the shotgun mics I showed are Azden SGM-X. I like them because of their super-cardioid pattern, their ~103 dB max SPL, their ~65 dB SNL their ~ 78 dB dynamic range, and their mini-jack interface for non-XLR camcorders.

Although it appears they’re now obsolete - some appear to be still available for purchase. And it looks like they’ve been replaced by the SGM-1X (ie. better specs).

I’ve found that they work great to record Marching Bands outdoors.

One hint for using shotgun mics outdoors, where there is wind noise. You can do better than the typical wind-socks or foam wind-screens which touch the microphone. The trick is to make a screen to break up the wind an inch or so from the body of the microphone.

Try a web search for “microphone zeppelin” for more info.

Or you can simply build one with fun fur…

Here is an Azden SGM-X, with it’s (not very effective) OEM windscreen, and a hot-shoe to 1/4-20 adaptor

here’s a homeade zeppelin for a single mic

with the microphone installed

and here’s one for a pair of mics, with enough internal room to ‘steer’ the mics more towards the center or the sides…
