Foam in laser cutter

Hi. Can we safely cut polyethylene foam and/or HDPE. Specifically http://www.toolfoam.com/closedcell.asp

Website says “Our PE foam meets Federal Spec A-A-59135/59136 (PPP-C-1752D). The foam resists chemical and caustic jet fuels and is smooth with an easy-to-clean surface.”

Mr. Internet says Yes and Yes. Specific DMS Laser policy might differ for various reasons; assuming you have taken Laser Basics, you may then recall the class included a list of approved materials. Either way, I’d suggest reading up on it first as there appear to be some tips/tricks to ensure you get the outcome you are looking for.

Yes used the laser several times just didn’t see it specially appoved or not.

I think you’re all fine with closed cell polyethylene foam, but you just want to check the specs/SDS sheet to make sure it doesn’t have any chlorine. Any products that produce chlorine gas during combustion will quickly damage the parts in the laser.
