So, this subject has interested me for some time now. If you subscribe to the advice that having a lawyer you are comfortable working with before you need to call on them, how does one go about finding a good one?
In my case, I found a good attorney (via a associates recommendation) for other issues (corporate), but that barring an actual trial all you need is a good attorney in any area, and a willingness to pay them to ‘chat’ with the gubmints police arm…
Referrals from someone you know and trust is usually one of the most effective ways to find a good lawyer.
Now I’ve never needed a defense lawyer, but a business lawyer I’ve used I got by simply going about the old fashion way of calling the local Bar Assoc. referral service and calling 3 attorneys who I thought would be what I needed and then set appts for an interview process. It was time consuming, but it worked.
Personal defense lawyers are probably a different animal. But I would most likely go through the same process if I had the time and I had no personal referrals.
Oh and I also looked them up with the Texas Bar to see if they had any complaints or judgements against them and/or specialty designations, etc.
