Feedback from Open House 2017

Let s hear some feedback from the Open House

Some of us spent almost all day helping in committee area, so
we sort of missed out on comments and such

And a side note, since everything is nice and clean and neat, Lets see if we can keep it that way

I spoke with several people about their demo’s and wow! I really enjoyed our conversations, and learned a few things.

I was a bit focused on the potters wheel when the tours came by, but they seemed to flow efficiently and smoothly.

We have so many talented people. I thought it went great!

I am a new Member as of today.

My only suggestion is to specifically state the event times. I actually came after the event was officially closed. There were several others who trickled in after me.

The hospitality was excellent and so are the facilities!

It was really nice to meet up and network with a variety of people who share my common interests! I also look forward to helping out with Committees and probably teaching as my schedule allows!

Thanks John!

Getting used to the web-site.

The most important part for me right now is to quickly register for both wood shop and machine shop classes. I do plan on attending the Machine Shop Committee meeting this week and will look forward to being an instructor as my time allows. My background is as a Tool Maker…currently working as a Manufacturing Engineer in the aerospace defense industry.

That is great!

Sorry that most of Jewelry was put away before 6
If that was one of the areas you missed, I am teaching classes
both on Wed and Thurs night and it is likely I will be there for Tues night
as well I would be happy to show you around the area

Thanks Cairenn!

One of my hobbies is model railroading. I have an affinity for brass models. Look forward to using both the machine shop and 3-D printing lab to create investment (lost wax) and sand casting patterns to cast brass and nickel silver.

Also looking forward to using that English Wheel in the welding/metal lab!

Adding Chris’s (aka John the Cat) welcome. Now what can you teach?!

Edit: We’ve been talking by email … he has a LOT to offer Metal Shop and Machine Shop. Hope to see him around a lot.

For you Engineering types @frank_lima @Chris_Wischkowsky @CalvinStence : he’s a manufacturing Engineer, great resource for producing those projects to you are working on. Sorry Will, you are now a tribal resource!

For everyone who helped with cleanup, setup, breakdown and volunteering yesterday. Thank you for your time. I think the displays and interactions were great. I was mostly giving tours or greeting people in the lobby. Everyone leaving had a great time and had only positive comments.

The cotton candy was VERY popular. It was funny to see how many of the SAME people were going out the front door to get MORE cotton candy.

The 10x10 got lots of positive comments too.

Almost all the Committees had stuff to show off. Fired Arts, 3D, Auto Sports, Automotive, Laser, Jewelry, Machine shop, VECTOR, Creative Arts (beyond 10x10), Electronics, Metal Shop, Science, Woodshop. (I am sure I have missed someone, my apologies.)

I am not big into cosplay, however, the 501st was there in their Star Wars dress, it was very impressive.

This is an ongoing comment. Where were the rest of the members? I think there is some disassociation around supporting the space. For DMS to work, you have to give back sometime. If you left yesterday to someone else because you “just come to work”, you are missing the point to DMS. I know 4 of 5 board members attended. Seriously?? The Big Open House is the day we get to show off DMS and for members who did not come, you missed out. I am proud to show people what we have to offer and how we have grown.

I had a few reloading presses set up cleaning up a load of 9mm brass to give the crowd a taste of hatchers. Had several kids come through who cycled some brass through the press for me. I also had some of my chainmail on display and my 10X10 from last year which had both chainmail and reloading on it… Couples would stop by, the ladies mostly looking at the chainmail necklaces, the guys asking about Hatchers and which calibers I had on hand and got to show off my custom JHP .40 bullets. Good fun!

My first year volunteering. I feel like I received more in return than I gave, meeting members and committee chairs (including @merissa, head of my favorite area, who educated me more about Laser), learning more about areas I’ve never explored. Selfish! Inspired! Count me in for next year!

You and Merissa were fantastic in the Laser area. Laser was busy all day.
I’d also like to thank Brandon Green for bringing in his 3d printed V8 engine and misc other pieces !
The 501st folks were incredible!

The cotton candy was a great and a good class on “do it yourself”

Stephenie, don’t sell yourself short, you were a tremendous help!! You brought in great pieces to show off what our tools can do and your enthusiasm for the space and the lasers (yay!) put a smile on everyone’s face  Then you even gave a tour when guides were running short and did a fantastic job! Thank you so much for all you did on Saturday.

Also want to say a big thank you to @Adam_Oas for taking care of us throughout the day! The pizza and water deliveries were a lifesaver for sure!

Adam, @Nick, and @Diplomat did a wonderful job as tour guides! I know there were others as well and I’m sorry for not remembering names, but thanks to all the leaders for sharing your love of the space with new potential members.

I also loved the cotton candy machine. We need to break that thing out on board meeting nights to make things more fun!

I can’t speak for anyone else but this is the first year in the last three that I haven’t been heavily involved in Open House. Alex let me know how amazing everything looked and I had a major bout of jealousy. I’m no less proud this year and was so so sad I couldn’t make it out. It’s one of my favorite times of the DMS year. I’ve always thought of it as the time when the dumb politics(that no one is really here for) went away and everyone just celebrated this cool and special thing we’re all a part of.

I’m sad that it was still on your mind Steve. Perhaps that missing board member was like me and life got in the way. It happens. Thank you to everyone involved in the day. From all the pictures and stories I’ve heard it was an absolute success and even though I helped very little this year, I’m still oh so very proud to be a part of DMS.

I find this comment to be VERY disturbing.
I may not like you, but that doesnt make one trash. I wouldnt
even call the guy that cleaned his corroborator in the jewelry
ultrasonic cleaner trash

Woahwoahwoahwoahwoah! I wasn’t calling you trash. I sincerely apologize if it came off that way.
I was hoping it would be more obvious that I’m referring to people that put garbage on the BOD agenda and don’t show up to represent it. And the people that threaten to take legal action against DMS just because they don’t get their way.

I still find you comment objectionable
