FDA revokes permission to treat COVID-19 with hydroxychloroquine

After reviewing new information from large clinical trials the agency now believes that the suggested dosing regimens “are unlikely to produce an antiviral effect,” FDA chief scientist Denise Hinton said [in a letter] announcing the decision. (https://www.fda.gov/media/138945/download)

FDA now says the data indicates the drugs are not effective against COVID-19 and that, given the possibility of serious side effects, the risks no longer outweigh the potential benefit.

Anybody shocked by this? LOL

Shocked no. But I have little faith in any government funded research or opinion.

little faith in any government funded research

Anecdote time! I used to work in the research dept of the Dallas VA Hospital. We did basic, “government funded” medical research. Like what causes activation of certain cellular signalling pathways that might lead to certain kinds of cancer. We also did industry-funded research like clinical drug trials. A couple of government-funded studies didn’t turn out like we had all hoped, but they got published anyway (“Stimulus 1 does not reduce Cancer C signalling activation,” bummer). The biggest industry-funded study I worked on didn’t turn out like the drug company wanted, and it never saw the light of day. Another proposal from a drug company was so off-the-charts wacko in terms of proposed methodology we laughed them out of the lab (even though we could’ve used the money).

Your mileage may vary.

Zero, if in fact he has any.

The medicine in question has been taken by MILLIONS of folks for decades as an anti-malarial.

The negative outcomes were in people they gave very large doses to after they were already very sick.

He said words in public, no need to hope.

The progression of his dementia has been well-documented because he’s in the public eye. https://www.alzheimers.net/signs-of-frontotemporal-dementia/

For Christ’s sake, can all y’all please spare us all your ridiculous political regurgitations? Seriously, grow up. Other than entertaining and impressing yourselves, what are you really accomplishing? No one – NO ONE – here gives a rat’s ass what your political leanings or opinions are. You are not going to influence anyone or win any hearts and minds with this mindless stupidity. Please, if you just have to scratch this immature itch, just go out to Reddit or Twitter or 4chan or whatever silly forum/site you want that thinks this type of nonsense is cute or cool or funny. But we are already all stocked up on crazy here, so please stuff a sock it.

Oh wonderful,

another article that doesn’t cite sources, uses blurry graphs out of context, and seems hellbent on making this about specific people they attack with the wonderful “put quotes around someone’s name to blame them” strategy.

This thread has run its course. There’s no value in necroing it.
