Expansion Update - Passed the Plumbing Inspection

Earlier today (Wednesday) we passed our City of Carrollton Plumbing Inspection.

Both hot water heaters in the 102 and 104 sides of the building were replaced. Additionally, plumbing was added above the ceiling for new sinks in the Science and Warehouse areas. Since there are no floor drains in those areas, sump pumps will pump the sink drains up and over the ceiling.

As part of the 104 hot water heater replacement, the Janitor’s Closet was completely cleaned out, the floor was cleaned, upgraded the walls with washable FRP material, and replaced the old sink with a larger sink. The original Clay Trap was reused. Stop by the Janitor’s Closet and see what a difference the changes made.

On the 102 side of the building the new hot water was installed in the future Wet Classroom. In the near future a sink will be installed next to this hot water heater. One can see the new water and drain lines in the wall sections where the sheet rock has been removed in the Science and Warehouse areas.

Volunteers…we now need some help to repair the sheet rock areas that were affected. The insulation must be re-installed, and the sheet rock replaced, taped and bedded. Sand the area and add matching paint. We will also install washable FRP material behind each of the new sink areas. Once the walls are done the plumbers will return, add the sump pumps, and connect up the new sinks.

Question…does anybody know where we purchased the Clay Trap that is in the Janitor’s Closet. Expansion would like to purchase 3 identical units for the; Wet Classroom sink, Printmaking sink, and the Warehouse sink. Please let me know.

Yes, the Expansion effort is a slow and methodical procedure. Engineering drawings, Building Permits, and City Inspections are required for all of this work. We want to assure the City of Carrollton that the expansion of the Dallas Makerspace complies with all the regulations out there.

I believe that I purchased that clay trap from Clay King. There are really only 3 types of clay traps available. The nice stainless tub one that we purchased; a “replaceable bottle” one that looked like it’d have to be cleaned/replaced much too often, and the disposable plastic bucket type that looks cheap, until you have to just replace it every few months.

When I purchased, Clay King had the best price. I’ll try to remember Monday when we get back from Arkansas, and I’ll look through the websites to see who’s got the best price this time.

Thanks for the update! The janitor’s closet looks fantastic! Thank you to whomever worked on that!

Those clay traps and the FRP are going to make those sink areas easy to clean and maintain for a long time. I’m really glad we’re spending the little bit of extra money to save ourselves the headaches later.

Thank you! The new utility sink and warm water are truly appreciated

Our current trap is a Keystone plaster trap, made for dental offices, for anyone wanting to do some web searches. Last time I looked they were cheapest on Amazon, but Sheffield and The Ceramic Shop also carry them and sometimes have sales.
