You are correct, the sink next to Printing Making already exist.

Yes, thank you, this has been an action item from the ceramics department for some time.

That is one of the problems with many of the commentros here They do not realize what the committees need,
I wonder how many of them have any idea how many kiln glass will need

Are there other constraints forcing fired arts to be located in the north east corner of 102? Swapping the location of some committees to put fired arts next to the existing sink would be even closer than the proposed sink and could avoid having to install a new sink.

As stated in the article above, the current set of plans have been approved by the City. How we phase any construction can be handled by the General Contractor. DMS can still request modifications as a means to reduce cost, but each modification has to go back through the City’s review process again. No comment on your legal question as I am not a Lawyer.

I’ll grant that it’s absolutely non ideal, but I think we should be careful about needs vs nice to haves.

Woodshop needs dust collection to (as far as I know) meet fire code.

Ceramics (and those between them and the sink) would like to have a sink close by so muddy water doesn’t get spilled and members don’t have to lug stuff around.

It’s absolutely high priority, but it’s not going to prevent people from using the space. I’m only pointing out the distinction because it sounds like there will be significant cuts soon and we should keep that in mind. It’s really up to expansion if the cost and priority warrant it.

Don’t think this refers to the current set up in laser. More likely concerns future automotive in 102.

Almost every committee wanted access to a sink, their own high walled room, and a lockable door. Just not enough assets to go around. The Expansion Group had enough trouble talking to the 20+ Committees and coming up with a merged solution that the Board of Directors would accept. You elected your own specific Committee Chairmen. . . suggest that you voice your concerns to them. We will be calling on these Committee Chairmen again soon.

Weird flex, but okay.

Hey Rich,

On a really high-level feasibility level, how much unfinished work are we allowed to have prior to a certificate of occupancy? I’ve been PM on some projects before, and I know one strategy was to break up the trades into sections with none of the finish work between:

  1. Electricians work the panel and associated runs, no drywall closure. Electrical work throughout is done. Minimum closure for safety occurs.

  2. Pipefitters open whatever else they need along with electricians previously opened stuff. Run air/gas/water per bid. Don’t connect it to an air compressory (or lock it out). Infrastructure only. Minimum closure for safety occurs.

  3. So on, so forth.

My basic thinking is prioritize by whatever gets us going towards our plans as filed and towards a certificate of occupancy. Put utilities wherever they need to be. Finish mechanicals and plumbing (sinks, toilets, connection to air distribution systems, etc.) comes last.

All finish stuff comes last. Machine shop infrastructure is put in place but millwrights come in absolutely last, etc. Do the trades in phases (but don’t mix between phases, major $$$ and coordination impact) and move committee stuff to 104->102 as the absolute last item with major volunteer labor/millwrights.

It makes a $600,000 into a $675,000 project (from a PM and time perspective), but it lets us work our budget as needed.

Not sure what level of thought/VE has been applied to grouping like committees together (science/ceramics/laser for ventilation), but there may be some pocket change there.

I’ve been speaking to Kris. If there are any opportunities for someone with PM skills or general labor, I’m down to help.

To be clear, I’m basically proposing the place have no functioning pneumatics or water for awhile.

My number one priority in my proposal is getting the phase work done in a way where we don’t have to reduplicate work and can get our certificate of occupancy. Bathrooms might be the only thing I hook up (from a code/ADA perspective).

The space would not really be usable for awhile for anything other than classes and storage. Science won’t have their hood. Automotive won’t have their lift. Ceramics won’t have their sink. Only utility drops where stuff should go.

I think we have a good plan and agreement from committees, we just have to break up the work into something we can PM and pay for.

The Expansion Group needs to look at all these great constructive ideas. Our original goal was to get everything done in two phases. Now it looks like we need to break this up even further. If you wish to join this group please contact the Board of Directors and throw your hat into the ring.

Please send an email to [email protected] if you are interested in being on the Expansion team.

What skills you have to offer and how many hours you are available.

I will apologize early. This team will do much of the heavy lifting to get DMS updated.

Volunteer with your eyes open. Please.

For all that volunteer. Thank you.

I know that there was going to need to be extensive work to make the water fountain in 104
ADA complaint Can we just remove it and use a bottled water cooler in the lobby?

What parts of the ADA compliance items that we can do? Like rebuilding stalls, hand rails and such

The current water fountain in 104 is an obstruction in the hallway. It must be removed and replaced with 2 water fountains, one regular height and another shorter for wheelchair access. The current plans are to remove the lower cabinet and sink in that same hallway, the cabinet with the coffee pot on it. This will provide us an alcove where both water fountains can exist side by side. This site was chosen because water and sewer lines already exist there. Many of these items are considered non-structural and can be done by our volunteers.

Good evening all. Today I and Mike, sorry I didn’t get his last name, took care of most of the missing tiles. We couldn’t get to the small 6x8 inch missing tile outside the double doors leading to the woodshop. The tiles by the bay door are still missing but Kris stated that additional outside help was needed (unless I miss understood her) presumably due to the missing mulions (i think this is the name of the metal supports that hold the tiles). I don’t know how to flag the infrastructure group or the original poster to inform them of the work done. If anyone can do this for me i would be much appreciated.

Type in an “at symbol” and the beginning of the group in question’s name, in this case “Team_Infrastructure”, and you will get a popup from which to select the group in question, like so
@Team_Infrastructure

click that popup, clear the warning that you’re about to message 12 people, and post. It will notify those people in the group that they’ve been tagged.

I’m not sure if you mean the original poster on this thread, or some other poster. If you mean OP on this thread, they’ll get notified when someone responds to the thread, but you can also tag them using the same method. In this case, @mrjimmy was the OP, but the major content thereof was written by @richmeyer I think.
Anyway, all those folks have now been tagged, and, hopefully, will notice your post above and respond as needed.
:+1:
Thank you for your hard work!
