John says he’s taught more than David. I stand corrected.
I think @talkers has taught more than eighty percent of all the teachers at DMS combined
I’ve said we need Tshirts that say “John Gorman Classes / Collect them all.” And then have heat transfer vinyl stickers for the back of the shirt representing each class.
And John can teach the class on how to make those shirts!
“struggle” is a subjective word. It will cut it fine. The cut time will be longer.
But @mdredmond is right - it’s still going to be $1 worth.
I’ve cut intricate details in rice paper (fairly recently). Seemed to work fine.
I would buy one of those shirts. Just saying.
Katelyn also offers an intro. to Illustrator class from time to time (outside of Laser curricula) that can really help with Lasering.
Hmm…I might have taken all of @talkers courses.
Oh who am I kidding?
Scrap is free to use. Use all ya want.
Note, I tried 3/4 " MDF on the laser and just made a bunch of fire, I would not suggest anything near that thick, 1/2" might even be too much if you want accuracy. (with the installed lenses).
Evan - which laser? How high the flames? We need to check it out for melted parts and smoke on the lens and mirrors. Thank you for posting!
EDIT: checked the logs. You were on Donner.
I was already here, so I took a look at all the lenses.
The lens on Donner has been checked and cleaned. Also cleaned big thunder and Blitzen.
Donner took about 10 swabs to clean off all the residue on the air nozzle side of the lense, but it’s clean and working fine now.
Sorry I was not clear, this was at least a year ago, it wasn’t serious, it didn’t really flame up, as we were watching it closely, I was there with a member of the laser committee whose name escapes me. We both wanted to see how it would go, but gave up after a couple of tries.
But, the shape of the laser formed a wide cone and at the bottom it would cause some smoldering. The air addition would give it plenty of air to smoke a bit. It wasnt dramatic in any way, but the results sucked and we’re not consistent.
Whatever dirtied the lense today, I can’t claim
Thanks for clarifying. No worries. Whatever it was, I’m glad I caught it before it did any damage.
