Equipment Allocation Request for June 21, 2015

Does anyone have any suggestions for equipment that they believe the Science Committee should obtain through an allocation request at the next board meeting, June 21? Keep in mind that, due to the recent inspection by the fire marshal, the Board of Directors probably won’t approve very much that isn’t safety related.

We need laser safety goggles. I’m considering purchasing the following, either using existing Science funds or making an allocation request:

Also, I would like for us to have rubber safety mats, for protection against electrical grounding and mechanical shock.

Richard & Tron,

How about this? I am willing to donate it - it has a slide out shelf for more working space.

I also have another table I can donate, but no picture at this time.

Say yes, and I can have it up there tomorrow.

JAG “Never Can Have Enough Horizontal Space” MAN

While I was at the Space this evening, I asked Frank (and others) what it would take to have them make a workbench for Science. We discussed types of surfaces (with phenolic the leading recommendation, as it is impervious to water, chemicals and burning heat and it’s used in high school chemistry labs for their tabletops), cost (ranging from ~$200 to ~$500, depending on materials) and accessories (such as electrical outlets).

Frank makes great workbenches, but if we want integrated shelving, we might need to go with the sort of steel desktop used in Electronics. I don’t know if Frank would be interested in making those or not, as the CNC-router appears to be his specialty. But, by using steel, we could put up considerable amounts of shelving. Then, we just need a ladder to reach the upper shelves. But, that shouldn’t be a problem, as the only entrance into the Science area has become a ladder breeding ground. We had five ladders taking up much of the width of the Science entrance, until I asked why this was being used as ladder storage. Now, we are down to four ladders in that area.

@JAGMAN That’s a handsome-looking desk, but we are looking for something with more tabletop area. I’d like something large enough to assemble something like the nitrogen laser. Of course, a study desk would be nice, too, but we need to be careful about how we use our limited space.

Does anyone have any preferences for the type of workbench we get?

Any other equipment suggestions?
