The EPSON 7880 wide format printer has been leaving ink deposits onto prints. I took a look into the machine and what I’m seeing is that there is MASSIVE ink buildup all around where the print head parks. I mean A LOT. So, it’s clear where the ink is coming from but it looks to be a little more complicated to clean up than just wiping it up.
Optimistic prediction - I break open the machine and give the innards a good scrub down and everything is cool.
Pragmatic prediction - Some of the parts that are used to absorb up some of the excess ink are saturated to the point of exhaustion and may need to be replaced.
Pessimistic prediction - The waste ink line/system is also clogged and may need to be replaced.
This is more than I can tackle tonight. I’ll be out of town for the next couple of days and can revisit the printer next week when I get back.
So, the printer is down for right now and should not be used. I will update this thread as I learn more.

On a related note, the printer training class scheduled for next week will also be canceled and rescheduled.
Maybe it found out about the other giant printer and is just looking for some love and attention…not wanting to share the limelight in the Annex, you know?
Steve @pandabob had a good talk about it this morning. Although the little one is fussing about we will have printing available to members in no time because the big one…oh she mighty mighty.
Just don’t forget plain paper for the new one, please, unless we can use that 36" roll we already have on it. Will be great for patterns!!! No more Kinkos!..whoop whoop!
It looks like it’s going to be down for a minimum of two weeks unless @pandabob can find parts locally for us. What needs to be replaced is a part that is a consumable but not frequently at all. so all we ask is patience and understanding.
Any idea when the Epson will be back online? Been wanting to take a class for a while now but work always interfered or they were full, then I finally (!) got into a class for it that was at a different time and it got canceled. Haven’t seen any offered since.
