Epson 7880 (and related tools) questions

Howdy all,

I’m looking at signing up again and have a couple of projects that involve the wide format printer, specifically with canvas as the medium. Does DMS have any stretching/framing tools in the CA or other areas? I’m wanting to gallery wrap my projects when done, and figured I’d be making the frames in the wood shop followed by wrapping them when done.

Thanks!

I’ve had the same goal, but never timed it right. The printer seems to be wonky in its new location, so you might need to plan ahead a bit.

Looking forward to learning if there’s a canvas stretching tool. If not, I bet CA could find a way to put it to the budget. @mreynolds

Good question, one i can’t answer off the top of my head. Perhaps @uglyknees or @Photomancer could answer it??

Unless it’s been thrown away, we should have some basic stretching and framing tools. We did at one point anyway…

Paul (@Hardsuit) or Steve (@pandabob) might know.

A pair of canvas pliers and a pneumatic staple gun are all one needs to stretch a canvas

I’m pretty sure the pliers are what I had in mind. They offer a sure grip on the frame and then clamp if I remember correctly.

Question remains: is it in a drawer somewhere at DMS?

We had a canvas stretcher- I placed it in the bottom drawer of the smaller metal and wood roll around - in that drawer we had several things for matting and I felt it best placed. I don’t know if it’s still currently in that drawer.

Thank you @uglyknees, that’s quite helpful. Now to get my fob reactivated and figure out how I’m going to get the shots printed…oh, yeah, and get some stretcher bars. :slightly_smiling_face:

One thing at a time - you’ll get it going. If I find myself at dms anytime soon I’ll check or possibly someone can check for us both and report back.

I’m pretty sure I have an extra that I will bring to the space weds night

What size stretcher bar material are you looking for DerpVader?

I’m not sure at the moment, I need to go through and figure out the ratio of the pics I want to print which will allow me to figure out the sizes I can print and frame. Like I said, the first step will be to re-join and get that done. Thank you for the offers, I appreciate it.
