Epoxy Granite Machine Frame

I’m not exactly sure where to put this, but it looks like a great way to cast the frame for a 3-D printer.

Curious what the application is that requires such dampening for the gantry. It looks like it is for part placement.

Solid granite is typical for CMM’s (Coordinate Measuring Machines) since they can measure down to below .0001" inch, granite provides dimensional stability, primary concern is flatness, and their mass reduces vibrations (gantries also ride on air to reduce friction and further isolate vibrations).

Optical measurement tables are often made of granite or are attached to granite for the same reason.

Interesting article. Especially how they did their testing. But if the entire aluminum structure is fastened together before pouring, verses attached to it afterwards, there is still a primary path through the aluminum for vibration and the poured granite is acting as a dampener rather than an isolater that dampens for it gets to the Aluminum. Or Am I missing something?

Make great speaker enclosures - especially for the bass,
