I have a couple of ENI 2kW RF pulse ampliers, designed for MRI. I believe they cover the 15-64 MHz range, but can almost certainly be modified to extend up or down a bit. I’m wondering if these may be of any interest for amateur radio. These are billed as pulse RF amps, so I’m not sure if some kind of derating needs to be applied for CW use, but I can say that they are pretty beefy, at about 100 lbs each, and require 240V. If one or both would be of use to the space, please let me know.
Great. If we have a dedicated space (do we have a ham shack?) and someone taking charge, then I’ll bring them by. I just want to avoid having them sit around on a shelf with no purpose (like right now in my lab,)
We no longer have a Amateur Radio Committee, nor a ham shack (it is in boxes). In order to donate these (or loan them) to the space, you need the permission of the committee chair who would be responsible for them. The most appropriate would be @Lampy the chair of the electronics committee.
Possibly. These are designed for precision pulsed and modulated MRI RF signals, with 2kW peak power, so it may be possible. Some energy may be lost in the impedance matching. However, whoever takes this on should know what they are doing, since it’s a lot of power, potentially very dangerous. Also, poor impedance matching could cause large reflections and damage the amp. Also, that’s a pretty powerful laser, potentially dangerous as well. So obviously nobody should try it. . .
