Hello! I was at the space last nice trying to engrave on some cork. I had the most difficult time trying to come up with settings to do so. Does anyone have settings they recommend for this? It doesn’t need to be a deep cut, just enough to burn the design in.
For leather I use 100% speed 0.5% (< 1%) power and 100% current. That might serve as a starting point for you. Note that starting VERY weak and building up allows you to recut over and over on the same piece, gradually increasing the strength until you get something you like. Starting too strong may cut through and then you’d have to sacrifice the part in that case.
Note that it’s been a few weeks since I was at the DMS and back then the laser was having Power Supply issues which required tweaking the current down to about 70%. This may have been fixed since a new power supply was on order.
I did a bunch of cork coasters last winter. As I recall using something crazy low like 100% speed, 5% power and 5% current. This was directly onto the cork w/o any masking tape. It looked like a faint spark on the cork while it was on, but still did enough to score the pattern without leaving any scortch marks…
