Enamel on Copper / SS

Hi i am working on a project. we have possible 2 Laser sintered parts, 1 SS and the other Copper.

we would like to enamel these parts. is there someone that could help test this with me? willing to pay a small fee for the assistance. still working on getting the parts fabricated.

whats the size of the kiln?

Remember when enemeling Sterling Silver:
Sterling silver can be enameled but must first be depletion gilded. Depletion gilding is the process of heating sterling silver sufficiently to oxidize the copper in the surface layer of the alloy and then removing that oxidized copper layer by soaking in a mild acid solution (pickle).”

A few points to consider:

  1. The enameling kiln is very small.

  1. Check with the committee chair for permission to use specific materials; both the enamel and the substrate. Contamination is a concern in that particular kiln.

  2. Keep in mind that the surface finish of SLS parts is typically poor, worse than other “3D Printed” finishes. IDK if bead blast (which we don’t have) will get you where you need to be … might need to plan on some sort of surface clean up.
