Electronics update

Just a gentle reminder, not just for you but everyone. You need to talk with the committee chair and get their approval first, before donating or loaning anything. See 1.1 of the Rules

That was my request for approval. Approval can be expressed as an acknowledgement in this thread.

Metcal makes a stand:

If it’s similar to this, bring it in or post a picture of what you have.

I will put the tweezers back in the case and on the shelf. Hopefully this will keep those who don’t what they’re for from breaking them.

It’s just like that, except it only has a sponge for cleaning, and no brass cleaning pad. I’m heading to Tanner’s in a moment. I’ll swing by and drop it off.

I’ll grab mine back this afternoon.

If everyone wants, I could bring my small programmable DC load sometime. Maybe with instructions on operation.

Specs:
60 Watt Programmable (i.e. 20V at 3A, 12V at 5A)
20V Maximum input voltage
9.99A Maximum range
Programmable Voltage Cutoff

2 Modes:
Electronic Load
Capacity Tester

Useful for testing the capacity of Power Supplies and battery capacity from full charge to cut-off w/ Ah and Wh display. Combine this with using a scope and you can see the output ripple of power supplies. (useful for troubleshooting power supplies that test fine w/o load)

Aside:
Can a list of this stuff (the stuff that needs to be rehomed/thrown out) be kept – in the committee wiki page, maybe? There’s some stuff on shelves in that room that is absolutely ancient and at the same time that I’d love to have. (And if people are leaving 'scopes and spectrum analyzers, as stated earlier, and they’re not wanted, I’ll take up some of that extra too!)

Thanks @dave for the tweezer stand. I put the Metcal tweezers and stand in a plastic bin back on the shelf. Will be adding more smd tools soon.

@william_petefish - Thanks for the offer. Unless someone has a current need, I’d say hold on to it for now. If there’s a future need, a search for this post can be done and you or I can be contacted.

Some rearranging of the ā€œfurnitureā€ in the lab was done last nite. This freed up space in the center of the room and will make teaching classes using all benches easier. Thanks to @Shawn_Christian for the idea.

One of my goals for the E Lab is to make it more smd capable. I will be looking for ideas/advice from people w/ smd experience work/hobby on tools, stations, etc. Also will be looking for people to teach on smd techniques.
