The keyboard to the PC in the eLab has gone missing. Please return it ASAP! A specific keyboard was purchased for it, not cool for you to swipe it or replace it with another.
There was one in the Lost and found shelf, that might be the original keyboard. Sorry if it got misplaced.
I checked the entire space and could not find it. The few on the freebie shelf was not it. Not sure why anyone would take a 1 week old keyboard. It was not a great keyboard anyway.
Just pisses me off that someone would take it.
Perhaps, instead of âtakingâ it, it simply appeared to not be working so they assumed it was broken. Threw it out and replaced it with one from the freebie shelf. Heck, I wouldnât even be surprised if it was broken.
Just because something has gone missing, we shouldnât assume that it was stolen.
I really hate to think, that we have the number of members who are stealing things from all of the reports I have heard of things gone missing. I really suspect, and prefer to believe, that in the vast majority of cases it is simply a case of moving the part to another spot and forgetting to return it, or something benign like the scenario I painted above.
It was brand new and functional as I have used it extensively in setting up the computer. If it was not working they should have notified someone via [email protected] or [email protected]. Not just tossed it and got a crappy one off of the freebie shelf. I would have returned it for exchange now we canât.
Also it is not excellent to take parts of off a workstation. If you need a keyboard go get the crappy one from the freebie shelf and you use it.
Oh, I am not saying that if my scenario was correct they shouldnât have notified someone, I am just suggesting that in my scenario, no one stole something which is a fairly serious problem, much more so than simply not notifying that a relatively minor thing (keyboard) may have broken.
And I understand it was new, but I have had new electronics fail before with a disturbing frequency. Indeed I have a Raspberry Pi 2 sitting on my desk laughing at me since it has stopped booting or even powering on after only one hour of use (I was still setting up Raspbian).
I never used the word âstoleâ, I said someone âtakenâ it. And by taken, I meant that it was likely still in the space. That was the reason I went looking for it around DMS. I did not automatically assume it was stolen.
But you are correct, cheap electronics donât often survive long.
Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying.
Oh I completely understand. I didnât take anything personally and I appreciate your participation on the thread.
We are all getting ragetastic online needlessly
Add to list needle nose pliers (yellow handle Klein) and 2 small vise grips. May be time to start reviewing the camera feed. As the membership grows, so do the odds of this nonsense happening. Unfortunate.
I admit I did remove the keyboard to use for a raspberry pi in the common room and probably didnât put it back thatâs why it ended up on the lost and found shelf. I thought since there was a Dell keyboard in there that it was just swapped. Iâm sorry I didnât return it. It could have been thrown away because it was on the Lost and Found shelf. I remember the M key on it was hard to press and had a weird ISO/ANSI layout. I kind of feel responsible, if you want I will buy electronics a nice logitech rubber dome if you want, maybe this time engrave it with the âelectronics roomâ.
Thanks for letting us know. Weâll get another keyboard, it was only $9. The weird layout works well with Eagle.
