I had an issue on the Dynatorch today that I can’t explain. I have made this same part once before successfully, but today I had an issue. When I first started up the program to use the plasma torch, I received this error message, but the software still connected properly to the hardware.
I then setup the X and Y parameters and even ran the job without the torch to watch it trace the path on my 16 gauge sheet metal, all seemed to be well. I then turned on the torch and it did my first step which is to cut seven holes around the perimeter of the piece I’m making, the second step is to cut a larger hole out of the piece before cutting the larger perimeter of the piece.
The torch did step one perfectly, and then started onto the second step and quit after drawing one of the four sides of the center cutout. The torch then just shut off and stalled at the final location that it cut a hole rather than trace the path of the larger hole. It was only then that I noticed that it didn’t cut a straight line before it stopped. Mind you, I’ve cut this same piece before without incident and the test run before this ran fine.
Point A on the above picture is where my lead into the larger 4 x 4 hole would be, point B is where the torch stalled instead of tracing the 4 x 4 hole. As you can see in the photo, the line between A and B is not straight.
Was the original error the cause of this issue, or could it be something else?
I am not trying to be a harsh but the you need to use the dynatorch often before you will understand its errors. Most of the reported issues this year to me about that machine are due to user inexperience. Things like unclicking the estop, computer restarts, bad files, bad scaling, poor consumable quality, not setting the cut chart…etc etc. poor grounding. It isn’t just a machine you can walk up to and use once a year. (Trust me, I’ve had my share of issues)
Lightburn does stupid things to files. So do other programs. I primarily use solidworks, fusion360, and Inkscape. Also sometimes you just need to reset the program if you notice weird behavior. The other thing is some settings like torch limited retract, automatic torch height control and other things cause issues
I’m new and just took the quiz and would like to take the Dyno Class next week. There are only 3 spaces left and can’t get in as I have to notify someone that I took the test. What is the best way of getting in this class or a new class when available?
Thanks
Cheryl
Notification should be automatic once you pass the test with 100% score. If you can’t sign up, try logging out of the calendar and back in. It only queries the prerequisites when you login.
