Drum brakes and the 1st Porsche motorcar sold in the USA

Just a little “show and tell” with a couple of photos of a set of “drum brakes” I sold last summer just before joining the DMS.

I bought a complete set of very very rare drum brakes at an estate sale (of all places) and though a coincidental meeting with a photographer from OK city, I ended up selling and delivering this set of brakes for use on the first Porsche ever sold in the USA.

For those that are curious - the set of brakes was sold for $3500.00
They are aluminum drums (to reduce weight and dissipate heat)
These were early “A” brakes for the red car above.
The red car was sold in 1952 in OK city

and this is why the new emoticons are falling short.
Where the hell is the drooling one?

Got to work on a 912 once. Same engine (essentially), better brakes, but less interesting…

Eddie Rickenbacker sneers & walks away.

The 912 “looked similar” but was a different engine all itself

Here is a pic of “his & hers”(a good reason to go to do well in medical school) in the climate controlled 6 car garage

To a bug mechanic, these engines were quite different.Haven’t had the pleasure of tearing into a 356.

@Kentamanos
I see what you did there. Thank you. Still not the same as drool, but available…

Yeah, I can confirm it doesn’t seem to exist.

I disagree,
I see the drooling face on my screen. Wait. Oops. I think I should step back from the monitor.

HA! I know that car! I watched the owner park it in a coffee shop that I was at in one of the nicer OKC neighborhoods. I asked him about it and he seemed pleased that someone noticed. It’s much more beautiful in person than pictures for sure.

Adam,

I drove the brake parts up to his house - just so I could see the 1952 Porsche in person. He is a really down to earth guy and does much of his own car work (pretty surprising for a physician). He bought the car(not much other than a shell) from a junkyard in the 1980s for $750 including delivery.
