Drive-Thru Garage sale successful!

I’d like to thank some people first:
@dryad2b scheduled the event and started the process of promotion. She also sat there minding the store while I flitted around Rearranging merchandise, fetching a drink, washing sticky black goo off my hands, arm and leg, etc.
@jnorine came early for his laser class, and helped get all the fiber, leather and other CA stuff out to our staging area. He also helped get the tables setup for the sale.
@pjolone helped me schlep the tables from Interactive out to the South warehouse, so we could load them onto the dolly.
@Russell_Crow and some guys wandering around with him volunteered to help setup the tables and get stuff setup.
@mrjimmy and @Anette_Henningson helped setup tables and get the ceramics items placed on said tables. They also returned at days end to help pack up.
A couple of ladies I don’t know brought some contributions and helped keep an eye on the setup. (The wind rearranged lighter-weight stuff fairly regularly.)
And most importantly, our shoppers!

We were pleasantly surprised with the steady stream of people searching for treasures, bits of fiber to remember their friend Jeannie by, contemplating new hobbies or new creations based on the items they spied… by 4:30 when we began to close up shop, Beth had collected a pretty good bankroll to put in the finance box. And all the leftovers were a fraction of what we started with.

@JBluJkt thought we should do parking lot sales monthly. I dunno about that, but several people commented that they were more comfortable with the open-air setting than if we had staged it indoors.

So, lotsa excess stuff gone and Fellowship Fund coffers not so bare. #winning!

More sales is not a bad idea, we can clear out some of the orange classroom and maybe some Hatchers stuff. If someone wants to take the lead on this that would be super helpful.

We did! We put 1.5 of the bins into the sale already, and have plans to do more next time. The main issue right now is finding volunteers to help inventory it.

Why not do a quarterly garage sale? That will give areas plenty of time in between sales to determine what needs to be sold.

I was sad I couldn’t come today. I had a vet appointment and couldn’t get over. I’ll be watching for the next one!

I don’t know much about those parts but I can probably find some time to help out with that over the next few weeks.

@artg_dms Add another victim to the list.

This is just an observation on my part, but I would suggest investing in some variously sized ziplock bags and transfer the parts out of the cardboard, topless bins to the bags. Maybe cut the label off the box to stick in with the parts. While the hoard was down to just the single bin, it would have been easier to repack if just bags.

And. One of the boxes of gears was apparently VERY heat sensitive. Within the first hour, @LAndras observed that they were melting. Shortly thereafter, we had a box of black sticky goo.

If I can figure out how to harden it back beyond the sticky phase, it’s gonna be 10x10.

Re the Hatchers inventory, Thurman had done one a couple years ago and I believe it was posted on the Hatchers wiki page. At the close-down of Hatchers, I had heard that some of the bullet dies and equipment had been relocated to storage away from the hatchers work area. I’m not sure if the last purchase Hatchers made from a reloader getting out of the hobby had been added to inventory. If the wiki inventory doesn’t include the lead ingots or the .45 cast bullet lube equipment, then it was not. You’d have to fill the committee chair seat to handle some of this. I’d step in, but I’m in the middle to moving to Louisiana and don’t have the bandwidth to spare right now. Regardless, if the hatcher’s committee hasn’t been entirely shelved, you’re going to have to get an acting chair in there to weed out and move ahead of Woodshop’s space rebuild. A recent thread on “ballistic art” might give you some people to ask.

I know UV from sunlight cross links most polymers but have yet to see one do the opposite. Are you sure it was not just stale black licorice softening in the sun? :candy:

That was unexpected. Some type wax / paraffin?
Looking forward to the 10x10.
Ziplock bags is a great idea. Will try to remember for next time.
Thanks for letting us add to the collection.

it was stale black licorice with crunchy metal centers, then. Yum!

It was a source of merriment and mirth, though!
It has the consistency/stickiness of warm tar at the moment. So I’m guessing some derivative of crude oil. I would have expected it to return to the consistency it was prior to melting, but so far, no go. I may try sticking it in the freezer to at least get it hard enough to peel the cardboard off. But I’ll wait to see if I can find a 10x10 plexiglas box frame. Then at least if it stays sticky, I can remelt it into the frame and then cover it with clear resin.
@MizGeek adopted most of the lead things. Wayne’s business uses/loses them with regularity. After I sent her photos of the electrical offerings, he kept asking her about other things. I assured him that y’all would be putting more stuff up as you get further into the inventory process. And there were other people poking around in there as well, so I think once y’all are ready to unload a larger pile of booty, with advance promo, there would be shoppers. FYI - I think the little screwdrivers were the most popular item on the table. The big delrin gears were appropriated by a few people to use for texture on ceramics. Which I thought was a pretty cool observation!

I’m glad we “got rid of them” to a good use like that. I would have never thought of using them for that purpose and as far as elab goes, they were “trash”.

Thank you for a job well done!

Does anyone know someone named Linky Bier? I bought the scrapbooking roller bag, and some family photos, cards, certificates, etc. and a Disney character autograph book were mixed in with the supplies. I would like to return them to Linky or a family member.

Thanks!

That bag was dropped off by a couple of non-members. Granted, they saw DMS as a good place to donate their craft supplies, so maybe some one knows them or of them.
